Worst Offseason Ever?

To this point, would you say this is the worst/most boring offseason ever? I'm not saying we should've made a big signing of went out and blew tons of money on a weak market, but I do believe we could've done a lot better than we have thus far.

Anquan Boldin would've been a nice addition for the right price and I was really surprised that we weren't interested AT ALL. Hurney mentioned on the WFNZ interview that Boldin wasn't a good fit, which I don't really understand unless he was referring to having to pay him money and JR wasn't having it.

Some would say this has been a great offseason depending on where you stood on Jake. I'm not happy that he was cut, but I am happy that there's change and we're forced to move in a new direction. The aspect of youth and a new faces getting a chance to play is definitely exciting.

Seeing guys like Moore and James Anderson, who we have had for years, getting an opportunity to take over and contribute is something I have been looking forward to... But, other than addition by subtraction, do you think this is the most boring offseason ever?

I definitely don't ever remember us being this inactive in an offseason. But, for some reason, from Hurney's interview, I have a feeling we're gonna do something relatively big during the draft...

Well, I know our philosophy to build through the draft, and that's another reason I have feeling that Hurney is gonna go all out and make something big happen. IDK what it will be, but I do think there will be some kind of trade, maybe into the first round.

But, I am just surprised at how little we've done in backing up our young guys or just providing general depth.

Wallace Wright can definitely play ST and I think he'll surprise people who haven't seen him play before offensively.

Hudson... Meh...

But as far as the QB position... Bringing in a vet that we all could say, "wow, that's a solid signing. I'd trust that guy to get us through if Moore went down." We haven't even gotten that.

I know it's a weak market, but a guy like Charlie Batch WAS out there.

Are you serious? This thread sucks.

Yes, I'm serious.

Active - Bringing in guys for visits. Calling FAs. Gauging interest.

I don't ever remember going through April and hearing this little about our front office. Even local beat writers would mention how we had a guy coming in or we were discussing contract numbers with them in seasons past.

We don't appear to be doing anything except preparing for the draft.

And your mom sucks... DEEEEEEZ NUTSSSS!!!

I still don't get this mindset. What Carolina is doing is NOT trying to build a team that wins in 2010 but wins the upcoming few (and likely after a lockout). They aren't bringing in any vets that would require more than a yr patch job. Carolina is doing a good job following the blueprint perfectly right now.....

Don't expect anyone being brough in that isn't simply a warm body to get them through this year. It is all about playing time/experience for young guys getting them ready for when Carolina is ready to get in win now mode (and then they will bring in legit talent).

Good points, but I didn't think we wanted to admit we were in "rebuilding mode" yet.

If we pay TD, Beason, Williams, Stewart, our OL and other key young pieces when their time comes then I will consider this a very successful off season.

I don't think you'll see them sign both TD and Beason. Both are going to comand 5-6 year deals worth 40 million +. Add that to Williams making serious bank, plus Kalil and Stewart in a couple...No way they'll be able to drop the money on all of them and I don't see a team tying up close to 80 million in just two LB's in a 4-3 system.

But how many people see it like that??

Not a lot...

Not even close. We didn't NEED to make a bunch of big moves this offseason.

The only thing that NEEDED to happen(in my opinion) was making sure Moore was the starter going into 2010. I would have liked to make a play for one of the big name receivers, but that's just not how the Panthers operate and I've grown to accept it. Something that would make this offseason absolutely perfect would be extending DWill, Kalil, Beason, and Davis.

Just take a moment and think about how well off the Panthers are compared to other teams. We have arguably one of the best offensive lines in the league, a top 10 receiver, 2 elite running backs, a secondary with experienced players that finished #4(#8 in total defense) in the league in pass defense/takeaways in 2009, a top 4-3 linebacker core, and almost all of those players are still young.

Yeah we need a WR, and possibly a DT. Those will be filled in the draft, not through free agency or trades. Relax and quit worrying.

    • I feel like we are running out of time on dodging this bullet.  It will be us within 5 years or less imo.
    • Brother, I don't have a clue about what to watch, Ive been victim to too many "reality TV" scams. Bear Grylls was the last straw for me.... wait a second I did watch early pawn stars for about 6 full seasons. That slop 90 Day Fiance, Temptation Island, and marriage at first sight shows should be banned. Total trash that get insane ratings.  The last series I watched with GREAT joy and excitement was the first Dexter series on showtime. They do not make any TV movie slop for me in the last 20 or so years. New Dexter was a complete joke. Besides having one gem hidden each year, example I liked dune..... but Im a Syfy junkie.  Hell recently Im on the wine mom schedule with murder shows Forensic Files, dateline, any murder shows copies. My TV/movies knowledge is 20 years ago when history channel had Modern Marvels, MTV played music videos, and BET had Comic View. My gods do I miss those days... Plus Im on a terrible Habit with YouTube shorts, I need to do better...... Sucks being a old soul in this era.
    • Idk maybe. Guys like Favre, Rodgers, Brees also only having 1 kinda takes the heat off the Colts only getting 1 with Manning. And none of those QBs had to deal with the Pats dynasty or Steelers/Ravens mini-dynasties (no they are not dynasties but both those teams were in the mix pretty much every year in the AFC and both won 2 SBs in Manning’s career). Honestly think if the Manning Colts were in the NFC they’d have won 2-3.   An elite QB is a big deal but you still have to build a team around them. They could’ve been like the Dolphins with Marino.
