Once it became inevitable that the Eagles would be trading quarterback Donovan McNabb, the issue then became one of timing.

And, coincidentally or not, the timing meshed with -- and overshadowed -- the bunting-filled launch of baseball season. To the dismay of MLB Commissioner Bud Selig.

Asked about the McNabb deal, Selig sounded off, per Mark Viera of the Washington Post. "Goodness gracious, I'm a football fan -- this is Opening Day," Selig said. "If you really want to know I'm going to give you a brutally honest answer. I got up at 5:30 this morning and did my daily workout. And I was watching an unnamed channel and that's all they were talking about. I turned it off, that was my reaction. My goodness gracious."

Apart from the fact that Selig violated the code of baseball elitists purists and openly acknowledged the sport they regard as pro wrestling on grass, Selig broke out a grossly outdated phrase -- twice.

Then again, "goodness gracious" probably is appropriate, since it rose to popularity in the 1960s, the last decade in which baseball could make an arguable claim to actually being the national pastime.

To me this seems obvious, but I will go ahead and ask, is baseball still America's Favorite pastime??

I like baseball games for like a leisurely family pinic sorta vibe. It's usually quiet so you can talk to your friends and whatnot.

Football is for an upbeat party sorta vibe you do with your friends or fun family members. I love it. I've never been to a Panthers regular season game though. Just preseason games, and Clemson games.

    • I've already addressed this notion in a previous reply. You are basing your assertion outside reality if you think Bryce would have not only been more successful but defeated the Patriots in place of Herbert. Bryce got blown off the field by that Patriots team with the highest paid OL in the league. We've seen Bryce with an OL that gave up 65 sacks and it resulted in the #1 pick. And that is not a defense of Herbert or arguing he is a great QB in any way. He has physical talent but he has been similar to Darnold early in his career in terms of his very up and down perfomances. However that does not change the fact that they have significantly less invested in the OL than the Panthers.
    • I think Tepper has been setting the stage where pending there is no miracle he wipes it all clean.  Think you already have been told that with small things like Evero staying.  Bryce is the guy next year.  OC, DC, everything stays the same.  QB room largely the same.  Nothing would really matter there.  They basically get one more shot and it goes how the schedule paired with our 27th ranked O predictably most likely goes.  Everyone out the door together.  Bryce is a bridge tier QB.  I don’t see Dave surviving where he could be bridge QB here in reality.
    • I think the D performed well over the season considering it was put together with Scotch tape.
