Our new kicker?

yeah, the panthers base all decisions on stats from 2 years ago. no meetings, no try outs. no looking at other kickers. they seem some mediocre player and his stats from 2 years ago and go, "meh, we need a guy and he's a guy sooooo....you're hired."

It was a dumb move to let Lloyd go, the only way this guys kicks end up as TB is if the returner let's it bounce. Id be surprise to see one of this guys kickoff's eclipse the goal line. Hang time is a good thing if your players can make it downfield in time to tackle the returner for a short gain, our ST's lack in that category so we rely on TB's. We're doomed on kickoffs this year

Yeah, he's great.

Actually that was for the 2007-2008 season.

If you want his stats from the 2008-2009 season, here you go: http://www.gvsulakers.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/2008-2009/teamcume.html

His average was 63 yards on kickoffs and he had 22 touchbacks.

Also...

For the last year-and-a-half, he worked with Filip Filipovic, a former Dallas Cowboy punter who's now a kicking and punting coach in the Midwest. That helped Carter get a tryout with the Carolina on March 19.

So he's most likely gotten better, which is why the Panthers signed him.

This guy will not be on the roster come August. He is here to allow Kasay to rest during camp and not over exert himself by kicking too much...remember, he is like 60.

lol...so they are going to let kasay do the kickoffs this year. right.....

he'll be here and he will do well.

btw....i still can't believe that people are still getting upset over a KICKER leaving...a kickoff specialist thinking that it is just as bad as letting hoover go or something.

it's just a guy for kickoffs. you just need to find a guy with a big leg and this guy has one. it isn't a replacement for kasay. it's a replacement for a guy who just did kickoffs. there won't be much of a drop off if any at all.

but go ahead...keep on with the DOOOOOMMMED talk. :cryin:

    • Bingo. The dude is a baller no doubt and I'd love to have him in a vacuum but like you said he's gonna fetch a haul so the only teams it really makes sense for are teams with an overall good roster who they feel an edge rusher like Crosby would out them over the top in terms of competing for SBs. I'd be looking st teams like the Pats, Bucs, Ravens, Seahawks, etc. It wouldn't be shocking to see him moved. He may be more valuable to a rebuilding team in the form of the draft assets he'd fetch than he is on the field. He should still have several more good years in the tank at 28 but by the time the Raiders can reasonably expect to rebuild he's gonna be on the decline.
    • Crosby will garner a haul in a trade. I would be reluctant to make that trade because of the following: 1. Our overall roster is awful. We cannot afford to be trading away valuable draft capital. 2. He isn't the best fit(IMO) for the scheme that Evero runs.  I love the player but it would really need to be at a reasonable deal and I think he is likely to garner an unreasonable price if he gets traded.
    • In terms of need, EDGE is currently #1. Our pass rush is near league worst levels. However, I don't subscribe to "need" based drafting. BPA all day.  We do need to dramatically upgrade over Scourton, Jones, Wonnum and Umanmielen. That is likely in the running for the NFL's worst two deep. Not saying all those players are bad, but I am saying 100% of those players are 2nd or 3rd stringers.
