Love him talking about bettering himself in order to show his leadership.  Takes that responsibility of playing better so he can lead better.  Pretty vet response there.

That is the sensible approach. You have to earn that.

Canales press summary

  • Great spirited day for the first day of pads. Toeing the line and pushing each other. Great opportunity to teach what happens in the game. Pull our guys away, don't give the opponent anything.
  • Rashaad Penny didn't feel like he wasn't himself while trying to get back to what he was. Sounds like he couldn't get it to respond right after all of the injuries. Had the conversation yesterday afternoon after practice.
  • Shaq + Moton shut down for the day to recover and allow their bodies to bounce back in time for the Clemson practice.
  • Has to review the wide view film for what happened on the last play of practice.
  • Wasn't aware of the drone stuff, redirected Person to somebody else.
  • Trevin Wallace is big, strong, and fast. Looking for him to get comfortable with defense, calls, and alignment. Young guys tend to think too much and he's still teetering in that mode. Looking for him to settle in and be fast + strong every day.
  • Message to the team is that they have to be able to practice hard. Gotta hit. Gotta set blocks up. Gotta have the physical nature of play to figure out who can do what while also pushing one another. Making sure to get minds focused on what's best for the team after the play is over.
  • Plummer and third string guys are getting a lot of reps in order for the staff to better evaluate. They will get snaps in preseason. Want to make sure the basics are there before/while evaluating.
  • Brief canned response to QB3 rule.
  • Asked about iron sharpening iron. Doesn't want the team to beat the guy in front of them in practice, but wants both sides to bring their best which will ultimately elevate the team.
  • Too early to tell whether or not Rashaad Penny retiring means that other RBs have a shot.
  • Talked about OL. Brought up Chandler Zavala, Cade Mays, and Brady Christensen on looking good.
  • No updates still on the Daewood Davis injury other than it'll take a couple of weeks to recover. They need legs so they signed another WR so that they could have the numbers they need.
  • Taking Yosh day-to-day, but hoping to have him performing in camp before it's over after the reinforcement procedure he had.
  • Talked to Bryce about last season who had some carry over but it was mostly about looking forward to trust the process, trust how they teach QBs, and trust how they teach the offense. Just today matters, and he shows that. No panic with him. Wasn't down in any way. Nothing changed for him with pads on either. Was still trying to move the ball, took some good play action shots. Had some hiccups at the end but they're going in the right direction.
  • Everybody takes the bus together to Clemson. It's a team function and they're practicing being together as a team while also changing the environment to something similar to the season (not sleeping at home, on the road, etc).
  • Guys aren't using external what happened in the past to motivate them but what is happening today with the 2024 Panthers. Canales tries to keep them looking forward towards the next practice to correct mistakes from today's. If external motivation is used, then what happens when it's gone? Has to come from within. Trying to help guys capture attaining their best. Mentioned Miles Sanders and how the momentum can affect the whole group. David Newton asked about Sanders' post-play comments, Canales said he didn't see it and immediately moved to the next question.
  • Preseason game one is the most important game for a lot of guys on their roster. Tries to approach practice that way. Opponent and time of year don't matter, capture it now. Got some new info how to handle the physicality and not take it personal. Find opportunities to make it a game rep. If practice goes 20min longer, than go 20min longer and make it important is the message.
  • Keeping score for the offense vs. defense, but won't be awarding anything to the winner. Guys go crazy just competing, having a score is all the incentive they need.

you doing the lords work

Who's upset? This really doesn't affect me one way or another in reality, and thinking something is dumb and/or discussing opinions on a discussion board does not equal upset.

Funny how y'all assume that things actually bother other people.

I was going to recommend he pick up a thesaurus but just decided to ignore him instead. People really don’t know what words mean anymore

Hearing some concepts emphasized rather consistently:

  • Iron sharpens iron
  • Grit/tough
  • Internal motivation > external motivation
  • Focus on defeating yourself, not your teammate

Looks like the team has bought in to it enough to emphasize it during their media sessions.

its actually wild how night and day Canales is compared to Frank. Frank was a fuging zombie man, just felt like he never gave a fug.

And having like 5 dudes with different coaching opinions on offense lol. Tepper maybe learned something finally. Dream team was just an ego team that didn't mesh

    • Ok.  I see that signs may not obstruct others view.  That seems to be a pretty large sign, and since they are in the front, if they were to hold it up, I feel it would obstruct others view. I don't see the point in holding the sign in their laps. If I were in securities shoes, I would just tell them to put it up, so that I don't have to keep a constant eye on them because not everyone listens and will just wait until I turn my back to raise the sign again.  I see no point in holding a sign on your lap where it can not be seen unless you are just waiting to break the rules again. The amount of time they have "gotten away" with this is still irrelevant.  For all we know, someone complained they could not see because of the sign.
    • Cows fan with just some info.      Some good points from y'all but some that are poorly thought out too.   Dallas played the last game (Jets, 0-4) with 4 OL starters out, Cee Dee Lamb out, #3 WR Kavontae Turpin out (he's also the League's #1 returner), #2 RB Miles Sanders out (avg 5.8 ypc).  Dak is playing very well as is Javonte Williams and George Pickens.   Cows have a lot of offensive depth and talent and are/were the #1 offense in the League.  416 yards last week and close to another 40 burger.  They suck on D ! DC Matt Eberflus plays a very soft over the top zone.  Russell Wilson (NYGiants) shredded the Cow's D for 450 passing yards  (I think there were 7 plays of 30+ yards).  In the 2nd half of the Fudge Packers game Dallas D never got a stop thus there was a tie (40-40).  With only a D ranked around the middle of the NFL pack Dallas could probably be 4-1.   Their D sux badly.   They did get a few sacks (5) against Justin Fields last Sunday in NJ otherwise they gave up 380 yards against the Jets.   We are very familiar with Rico Dowdle.
