You could say the same about Jake Delhomme and Kurt Warner--however, I always say don't apply exceptions to the rule to your situation.  I am not saying that is what you are doing, but There are more Tim Couches and DeMarcus Russells than there are Jim Plunketts.  Chris Chandler (Falcons) comes to mind to support your post, and some might add Randall Cunningham.

If young turns it around its not going to be here, thats just how these things work.  When he is inevitably benched thats a wrap for him with this franchise.  Hes lost the fanbase and more importantly the team.  You dont get back in the starting lineup when that happens and Dave, dan and most certainly tepper know this.  Thats why they are going to stretch this thing for as long as possible IMO.

Bears falcons and Skins look like bad teams so they probably would like this to play out in 4 weeks.  If he goes 0fer against them then its over

maybe I should have been clearer, is there an example of a player being benched and them coming back to the same team and it worked out?

Believe it or not...I can.

Terry Bradshaw was benched at the start of the 1974 season for Joe Gilliam. He got his job back midway thru the season. He led the Steelers to a their first SB win that year. Pittsburgh won 3 more over the next 5 years.

Once again, in terms of talent, there is no comparison. Bradshaw was 6'3/215lbs, could throw the ball a mile, and in his prime I've heard he could run a 4.5 forty...no kidding.

So the only example was 50 years ago?  poo man this experiment is going to die an ugly death.  And like you say Bradshaw was a beast

    • I don't do locks lol. I just bet +1000 and up and can hit at a decent rate. Combine ml winners and team shots on target. Do better in champions league than anything else
    • Did not expect this from national media. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/10-best-nfl-defenses-2026-texans-seahawks-broncos 10. Carolina Panthers   Key additions: OLB Jaelan Phillips (FA), LB Devin Lloyd (FA), DT Lee Hunter (draft) Key losses: DT A’Shawn Robinson (FA) Don’t be surprised to see the Panthers, who ranked 15th in points allowed and 16th in yards given up last season, make the leap into the top-10 conversation in 2026.  They added two of the marquee defensive free agents in edge rusher Jaelan Phillips and linebacker Devin Lloyd. Cornerback Jaycee Horn is coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons. Carolina lost starting defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson in free agency but essentially replaced him with second-round pick Lee Hunter, who had 10.5 tackles for loss at Texas Tech last season.  Ejiro Evero, one of the NFL’s most respected defensive coordinators, has plenty of talent to work with.
    • unless you have a bonafide superstar at Qb you bring in competition every year until you do & or at the very least you want a legitimate plan B in case of an injury .the problem in Carolina is they know Bryce ayoung most likely could not actually win a real legitimate NFL Qb competition right now & if & when he did not win that aforesaid Qb competition it would not only be a major distraction but a setback to his overall development.& moreover once the fans realized they had a much better Qb on the roster it would be alot of public pressure to start the better Qb  ...just saying
