All the concerns I had about Caleb Williams' playing style are showing up. Holds the ball too long, too quick to bail on the pocket and try to create a scramble drill, too focused on the hero play. I wasn't sold on him as an NFL prospect because you had to view him as a complete rebuild project. You're drafting the raw talent and now you have to re-teach him how to play QB as an NFL QB because this isn't college anymore. Everyone wanted to compare him to Mahomes but the difference is that Mahomes can make all the easy routine plays look easy and routine and only breaks out the highlight reel stuff when necessary. Caleb wants to skip all the easy and routine stuff and just go straight to highlight reel stuff every snap and that can't work in the NFL.

If my math is correct, as of right now, Caleb has just matched one of Young's rookie stats... 62 sacks. Safe to say he's going to beat that. David Carr's record of 76 sacks may just be out of reach, however.

A lot of them are on Caleb though. This Bears OL isn't good and when you pair that with a QB who loves to hold the ball and try to scramble around to buy time well, this is what you get.

Yes, which is what everyone does every draft. As I stated, this draft appears to be a pretty big QB stinker.

Remember the notoriously poor class prediction on the 2022 QB class? Well as it stands only one of the QB's drafted(Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy) is likely to see a second contract with his draft team. Literally every other QB drafted is on another team and a backup just two years later.

This draft isn't that far off, aside from perhaps Sanders and Ward.

Irt my original comment, I wasn't necessarily saying that they had to do it this year.  Just that they need to draft someone to take Wilson's place eventually.  And it would be great to have someone sit for a year or two while wilson is still able to play.

But my point about the draft is, is it a stinker?  Its really impossible to tell.  To often, the great qb classes (2021) turn out to be not great, while the lesser hyped classes are better than advertised.

    • Nothing will change with the qb situation until Tepper is convinced Young is not viable. Until that point, it will be Young. During that time, any shortcomings of Young will be because he does not have the necessary supporting cast, and/or coaches are failing him with faulty schemes and defective gameplans.  So, until Tepper is out, Young is in.
    • Young is the kind of QB who will go as far as the team drags him 90% of the time. And once in a long while he'll explode and light the opposing team up. That is not anywhere near where we need to be as a team. What' worse is that we've won way too many games this season due to an extremely easy schedule. So we can't select a top QB in the draft, and a free agent QB is usually not the answer.  The Panthers fell victim to a long stretch of bad QBs coming out of college. Even if we had made different moves and selected any number of different QBs coming out, we still would have ended up with a bust most likely. Bryce is a bust. Tua is a bust. Zach Wilson? Yikes. Trey Lance. Justin Fields. Mac Jones. Kenny Picket. CJ Stroud. My point is that a lot of teams were devastated by this stretch of bad QBs coming out of college, but we were dumb enough to trade the farm for one of them.  The smart move? Tale the 2 first round picks from the Rams for Burns, and keep CMC. Sit tight. Whatever QB falls in your lap in the draft, take him. Then use the other two first round picks to build up the o-line on the cheap. This isn't Morning GMing. I said take the Rams deal at the time. We have not had a good GM ever in franchise history.  No more trading up for QBs. Clearly is a total guessing game. Stay put. Trade vets for draft picks and start the rebuilding process with a new GM and new coaches. Cut Bryce and bring him back on a vet min deal. Then cut him again for being trash. He's done here if I had any say.
    • He hasn't been the same since the head injury last year. I don't know if there are some lasting physical effects, or it's just mental. I hope he can get back to form, but I'm highly skeptical.
