Dwayne Jarrett to be cut *rumor*

App Panther

I meant for this year. It means absolutely no sense for them to cut him before training camp because they can afford to wait without any sort of risk.

I think even if Jarrett pans out, LaFell and Edwards can still be useful picks. Smitty isn't getting any younger and Moose... Yeah enough said. Whoever starts at QB would need more quality WR's regardless.

That makes since if they are running a different offense. As it is LaFell and Jarrett play the same position with the Panthers WR Flanker position. At the other spot you have Smith, Moore and Edwards. The wildcard being Gettis who can probably play both because of his size and speed.

So who ever loses out the camp battle between Jarrett and LaFell wouldn't probably make the active roster each game day.

I can see it

Fox is fighting for his job this season!

Yes Jarrett is young and has not matured ,but if your butt is on the line do you really have the time to invest ?

I'm thinking Fox has his eye on a vet F / A WR he will bring in to compete for #2 with the draft picks .

Also think Fox & Hurney offered Jarrett to Sea Hawks during draft but got no bites from Caroll

Q B & WR will be positions to watch during camp

Why would they cut him in the last year of his cheap as hell deal when his last game was his best? I could see at the end of Camp if Lafell beats him out but that would be stupid considering how long we usually take to develop a guy. Panthers fans I think swear up and down that Jarrett is the only WR that took 2 or 3 years to become productive. It usually is in a receivers 3rd year he turns it on which is usually around when they turn 24 or 25 Jarrett is only 24 and is only 2 months older then Lafell (yes I know that it is Jarretts 4th season).

This move at this time would be monumentally stupid considering our immense struggles to find a WR in the draft. I still think Jarrett will be the #2 this year with Lafell warming the bench for a year or two. But considering how little this FO makes sense in all areas in the off-season I won't guarantee that.

There is absolutely no reason to get rid of him before final cuts are due at the end of preseason. He is only taking up a roster spot at this point. With no salary cap in place the financials issues are non existent. He is surely worth one of the 80 spots we will have at this point. All of this conversation is better reserved until we start playing preseason games. Nothing will happen until then unless someone gives us great value in the draft like getting back our second rounder. I doubt that will happen.

I agree that it would make no sense to cut him now. His pay isn't an issue and what happens if one or more of the new guys gets injured in camp? I can definitely see him not making it to the first regular season game but cutting him now seems like a bad idea.

Doubt it, he's made some pretty clutch 3rd/4th down catches. He's seen the field a lot less than Keary Colbert and made the most of it(people forget about blocking...). With Lafell already having small questionable hands, Armanti Edwards new to the position with unknown hands, it's pretty dumb to say that he's getting cut. Even if your "source" is reliable, you are not. You could have mistaken his opinion/prediction as fact.

I'm in favor of keeping him now(considering Edwards have never played a down at WR and will take a year or two to develop) Gettis has special teams value. and LaFell will most likely be the #3 or possibly split time with Jarrett like Carter and Colbert used to do.

    • Ummm not sure adding anther 5'9 180 pound soaking wet forward is the way to go here.....
    • What has happened in HS athletics busted full force into the college world with this NIL/transfer portal stuff. HS sports has been jacked up for a long time now. You have all these "prep schools" that are basically just diploma mills for athletes who hoover up all the good athletes they can get and they're all on scholarship. Then they go out and recruit decent athletes with rich parents to come onboard and pay outrageous tuition while they tout their success at getting their athletes college scholarships. Yeah, those athletes getting college scholarships are the same ones you're giving scholarships to so that you can use them to recruit the rich kids whose parents can pay for it all. You see the same thing in youth travel ball leagues. The whole thing is just getting crazy.
    • It's your right to refer to it as vague, but it still flouts the theory of "zero evidence" that Tepper is changing. Here's another: "Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales and general manager Dan Morgan are reportedly being given a larger leadership role within the organization. Panthers owner David Tepper 'has taken a more hands-off approach of late,' according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. 'He's trying to trust Canales and GM Dan Morgan to get it right, knowing that the roster requires patience in its current state,' Fowler wrote. 'We shall see if he holds to that.'" https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10146782-report-panthers-david-tepper-has-taken-a-more-hands-off-approach-to-team   ""David Tepper just wants to win and he's gonna supply everything that we need to win.. Things are changing around here and things are looking really positive" ~ Dan Morgan  https://x.com/PatMcAfeeShow/status/1917639137550627107?t=6vgo8yXTO6eD0Gb55hyzNg&s=19   From about 2:15-6:35, Julian Council, Locked on Panthers, gives his take on whether Tepper seems to be changing (and specifically referenced the war room in his analysis):    Dean Jones of Cat Crave on David Tepper in the war room. "He was an innocent bystander throughout a hugely important decision, placing full trust in Morgan and Tilis to make the right call." Jones also quoted Pat McAfee: "What I noticed though, at one point, they looked at (David) Tepper to get an answer, Tepper didn’t say sh*t. All anybody has said about Tepper is that he’s hands-on, hands-on, hands-on. Too handsy, too involved. He’s not letting the football people do their thing. We just watched in the biggest moment for their franchise, a top ten pick, he just sat there and let everybody do their jobs. I think if you’re a Panthers fan, you love everything you saw there." https://catcrave.com/silence-from-david-tepper-becomes-panthers-loudest-victory Granted, you're not getting a major headline here, but that's not going to happen anyway. Fowler isn't exactly a nobody, everybody knows McAfee, and you also have some locals that follow the team (including Dean Jones). Of course you have a right to believe that Tepper hasn't really changed, but to say there is no evidence that he just may be changing is not really true. It's just not. Hate the guy, but the way that he has handled this current regime is different than he handled previous teams, and his silence in the war room and publicly in general is different than years back.
