Mike Florio thinks we had the WORST draft in the NFL

Florio is rarely well-informed when it comes to the Panthers, and he hardly ever gets it right when he makes a Panther related prediction.

(remember his "Steve Smith trade" speculation a few years back?)

Some teams he seems to know and understand fairly well. We're not one of them.

Florio is an idiot. I do agree that the Browns had a very good draft, but his reasoning is always flawed. We had a good draft. We could have gotten players that filled more pressing needs, but I think in the longrun, this will prove to be a very good draft for us. We've needed WRs forever & finally have enough so if 1 or 2 fail, we still can have guys stick. QBs must have time to develop & no draft analyst wants to give players developmental time. I think Clausen should sit this year & develop. If we do this right, we will be able to pick up high picks by trading away 1 of these QBs (Pike/Clausen/Moore) in future years.

Very true.

But to give any team other than a C or a B a day after the draft is ridiculous. But the talking heads have to give some teams a D and some an A.

No one will truly know who did well and who didn't until 3 years from now at the earliest. So what any and all talking heads say now doesn't mean poo.

so, we shouldn't have drafted the 2nd best qb in the draft midway through the 2nd round because we may have a new coach next year? well dang, i didn't know that's how it worked. i guess i have to hate our draft now.

If the Foreskins would have not traded for McRibb and taken Clausen with their 4th pick everyone and their mom would have been slobbing the Redskins knob for them drafting the arguably most NFL ready QB in the league.... The Panthers get a Christmas gift in April and get criticized for it.

    • Yeah they were bad QBs - but QB's that stayed on their teams for several years.  BY is better than all of those.
    • This is the right move even if you think Bryce isn't the future. Everything except signing him to a long term deal until proven otherwise. There's a decent chance we have a shot to draft a QB next year that we like.
    • If we're still bad enough that Canales gets fired, especially if it's during the season, there is no way we could ever attract any HC worthy of the job if we told them they had to keep Bryce their first year. That would be 2 coaches he's gotten fired and 4 years of not performing up to par. I still say replace both of them next offseason.  I like Canales the man and I think he's done an absolutely outstanding job at fixing our locker room issues, as it was really bad before he showed up.  But I just don't see it from him with his in game decision making, I think he's held us back just as much as Bryce has, just in different ways. Canales was our Dan Campbell, the coach you hire to turn the franchises culture around for the HC after them to inherit and take to the next level.   The difference was he had some elite coordinators early on and really let him focus on his "leader of men" role as opposed to the X's and O's that Canales does himself and it's turned out well for him.
