Best at breaking tackles breaking Tackles

Not sure if anyone posted this but I found this interesting. From Pat Y on ESPN.

This really shouldn’t come as any surprise, but two members of the Tampa Bay secondary were the worst tacklers in the NFL last year.

The folks at Football Outsiders sat down and reviewed every game from last season.

They looked for broken tackles, which they defined as “one of two events: Either the ball carrier escapes from the grasp of the defender, or the defender is in good position for a tackle but the ball carrier jukes him out of his shoes. If the ball carrier sped by a slow defender who dived and missed, that didn't count as a broken tackle.’’

Under that definition Tampa Bay safety Sabby Piscitelli led the league in broken tackles. Teammate Ronde Barber finished second. By the way, Tampa Bay safety Tanard Jackson wasn’t far behind. Atlanta safety Erik Coleman and former Carolina safety Chris Harris also were pretty high on the list.

I’m not allowed to share the entire breakdown, but, if you have an Insider account, you can get the whole rundown on broken tackles here.

Also, and this one’s free for all, you can get a team-by-team breakdown on broken tackles here. The Football Outsiders totaled up how many broken tackles each defense had and how many each offense forced.

The Tampa Bay defense finished second in the league with 94 broken tackles. On the positive side, the Carolina offense (I’m guessing DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart had a lot to do with this) led the league by forcing 117 broken tackles.

Crap I messed up the title.

I loved the guy but the fact is Harris was overrated almost every big pass play we gave up last year was his horrid coverage.. and lots of long runs were bad angles he took.... I think Godfrey steps up and Martin becomes a ball hawk, its going to be hard to pass on us next year...

Posted this response on the other thread before I saw this one.

Carolina safety Chris Harris also were pretty high on the list.

Thats because Harris relies on the big hit to force fumbles, not on wrapping up. It's pretty when it works, but not sound tackling technique

    • Play point guard while throwing to… in 2023: Mingo - bust. Hurt/hasn’t done a thing in Dallas. Well on his way out of league  Chark - no longer in league  Hurst - no longer in league Marshall - hasn’t done a thing  Sullivan/Strachan - pretty much same dude. Both not playing  Thielen - hasn’t done a damn thing since he left Carolina  Miles Sanders - nothing    2024: Legette - rookie WR who still has no idea what he’s doing  Mingo - see above  Coker - when he did play/healthy he was solid  Thielen - see above  Sanders - bust Diontae Johnson - headache. Out of league. Failed on 12 teams in 2024 There’s more names but again all irrelevant and doing nothing in the league. This is the crap and turnover Bryce has dealt with the first two seasons. Given the type of QB Bryce is he stood no chance with these guys. We’re finally seeing improvement because there’s some consistency at least now. It would be nice if we could get Bryce a tight end worth a Damn so he could use the middle of the field more often. Plus we’ve had 10 different OL combinations this season as well or something absurd  What an absolute disaster this has been since the trade up.
    • I mean we are limited in our options realistically, Howell is a Baker esque player who put up 4k and 22tds in his one year starting... with no weapons and a horrible oline. Oh I'm sure out the gates he wouldnt have a chance vs teppers golden brycey but if we stumble out he gates again Canales may injury list him again to try and save his job.
