OT: Soccer noise

Amen. I tried to be open minded about soccer and watch some of that U.S vs England game, but I could only stand about 5 minutes of that garbage. Oh well, I gave it a shot.

Me too. I've tried to give soccer a chance a while back, but it bore the hell out of me and the horns (or whatever they are) are annnoying as hell.

The buzzing noise was neat at first, however, it does get a little annoying after about 40 mins of play. As far as Soccer being boring after 10mins of play and such - you have to keep in mind that Soccer is a unique sport in the sense that it has very few interruptions. For example - you have no timeouts, no commercial breaks, no challenges, no instant replay, no measurements, no 2-minute warning, no 4 quarters, no punts/kickoff formations etc etc. All you have is a single half time @ the 45min mark. The lack of game interruptions is not appealing to the average American; this could be due to anywhere from shorter attention spans, to less time to get beer and hotdogs during breaks. Nevertheless, I love soccer and football and anything in between...Except baseball....and hockey....and swimming.... and other stuff..

South Africa is using them more than normal and it's interupting the global feel of the game. Typically roaring chants and song are heard, but the South Africans are ruining the game with the horns. I'm hoping they ban them. I'd rather hear the ra-tard chants and British announcers with marbles in their mouth....

For everyone talking about the worldwide appeal of soccer, there's a reason the U.S. is considered a world leader. It's because we don't watch f**king soccer.

The reason why we are a world leader is because we were lucky enough to be born here.

The reason why soccer is so predominant in other cultures is because it is the cheapest sport to play and all you need is a ball.

The fans in Europe, South America, and Africa care about their futbol just like we care about our football. There is no difference on the topic of passion, however there is a difference on the topic of knowledge. Most of these foreign individuals don't go around bashing a sport they know nothing about (American Football) unlike the American's that have the idea in their thick head's that if it's not invented by U.S. then it's not for the U.S.

The World Cup is amazing on so many different levels because it is one of the only times that individual's around the world can agree upon something and that thing is FUTBOL!!!

Alright I am done venting.

They may get rid of the horns afterall...

World Cup organizing committee head Danny Jordaan addressed the issue Sunday, and refused to rule out a ban. From the AFP:

"We have asked for no vuvuzelas during national anthems or during stadium announcements. I know it's a difficult question," he added, saying that "we're trying to manage the best we can.

"We heard from the broadcasters and individuals and it's something we are evaluating on an on-going base.

Jordaan told the BBC in an interview that he had to consider the option of banning the trumpets.

"If there are grounds to do so, yes," he said, asked if a ban was an option.

France captain Patrice Evra added fuel to the fire, claiming that the vuvuzela is the reason his side were so awful on Friday night:

"We can't sleep at night because of the vuvuzelas. People start playing them from 6 a.m. We can't hear one another out on the pitch because of them."

The vuvuzela is clearly much more than an irritating novelty; it's a divisive issue that is threatening the health of fans, affecting the quality of performances and ultimately putting people off of tuning in (will you honestly feel enthused to watch Slovakia vs. Paraguay knowing you'll have to endure 90 minutes of the sound of an angry beehive going through a blender?).

Oh really, is that why everytime the NFL goes over to England to play a game the stadium is sold out or is that why we actually have a league called NFL-Europe?

Every other country in the world bashes the NFL because they wear pads. It's a 2 way street.

I'm not interested in world peace. I'm interested in being entertained. Soccer is not entertaining to me in any way.
