Clayton: Jimmy Clausen won't start early

This is my biggest concern about Moore right now:

The Panthers' quarterback situation reminds me of the 49ers' last year. Shaun Hill entered last season with a 7-3 record and won his first two starts. But defenses caught up to him after coordinators had an offseason to study him and he was replaced as starter after six games by Alex Smith. Don't be surprised to see a similar scenario in Carolina, with Clausen starting by the seventh game.

...and Clayton did a poor job of plagarizing Steve Reed (or the other way around):

He closed offseason workouts by blowing out his teammates in agility drills.

I was there and I saw the drill, it was not a sprint or an agility drill - it was a conditioning test where guys had to run back and forth accross the width of one of the practice fields, I have video on it... nobody was "sprinting".

These came from Rotoworld

Despite earlier reports to the contrary, rookie Jimmy Clausen is still the Panthers' third-string quarterback.

The Charlotte Observer has cautioned all offseason not to overlook strong-armed Hunter Cantwell, but ESPN's Pat Yasinskas insists "there's no doubt" Clausen will open the season as Matt Moore's top backup. This appears to be a case of veteran loving head coach John Fox making the rookie pay his dues before climbing the depth chart

ESPN's John Clayton expects rookies Brandon LaFell and Armanti Edwards to play with Steve Smith in three-wide receiver sets this season.

Despite being passed on the depth chart by Kenneth Moore last season, Dwayne Jarrett will be in the training camp mix as a "veteran" option. Jarrett has shown nothing as a pro, however, whereas LaFell and Edwards are already turning heads in minicamp. Clayton calls converted QB Edwards possibly "the steal of the draft."

Clayton is a moron.

EVERYONE and there mama knows what we do in Carolina. We run, run, and throw to Steve. Moore was basically the same QB in 07 as 09. All you have to do in the offense is not be horrific. We aren't a passing offense and you can study Moore all day long. We all know the plays Fox and company like to run and can predict what and when stuff is coming. All Carolina needs is a QB who hands it off, doesn't fumble or make dumb throws.

I just don't understand why everybody has so many doubts about Matt Moore, yet I keep hearing that the guy in Philly (his name escapes me ATM) is gonna be a superstar. Is it just because Moore is a Panther instead of an Eagle or Cowboy? From what I remember, Tony Romo had all kinds of hype when he became the starter too, even though he had less game experience than Moore does right now. Does everybody just assume the worst for every Panthers QB or what?

    • I think the Bevell hire has more to do with adding actual veteran head coaching experience to the staff than anything else. But I do wholeheartedly agree that the obsession in general with Seattle needs to come to an end. I mean we plucked the one guy there to be our GM who turned out to be our worst GM in franchise history in just a few short years and that's really saying something given our history there. Clearly trying to mimick Seattle in any way has not been productive. As far as Idzik many of us have asked the same question but at this point in time it doesn't really matter anymore because Canales is either going to lead this franchise to a winning record or he will be shown the door.
    • Why wasn't here even considered? Better record and save % than any of t he 3 goalies on the US squad.
    • That’s why Bevell is a good move. Idzik might not be chopped liver, he is just inexperienced and even less ready to be the play caller than Canales. I still say the playbook is limited which is a hinderance to calling plays, I would imagine.    Anyway Beavis lol… no Bevell, got to consecutive SBs as an OC and won one with 48 points or something. Should have won the second one. And had several more good years there.    They were the team we had to learn how to beat it took us til the third year I think before we could go into Seattle and successfully compete.   That is glass half full thinking, yep, but that is head and shoulders over what we have had here for a while. Certainly now.     In addition.. It was Canales’ boss. He knew more then , I would bet he knows more now. I can’t look at this as anything but a potential positive thing.  Hell he might be the guy that can look at Dave and say what the fug are you doing? And Dave will listen. I think I can hope for that.  Maybe not.
