Hardy and Pugh Signed, Others released

Recommended Posts

Panthers signed fifth-round DE Greg Hardy to a four-year contract.

Hardy was considered a top-ten pick after a 10-sack sophomore season, but his draft stock dropped steadily due to injuries, weight gain, and character concerns. The Panthers have a major need at defensive end, so Hardy could earn playing time immediately if he's healthy and motivated.

Panthers signed sixth-round DB Jordan Pugh to a four-year contract.

Pugh was a playmaking corner and safety at Texas A&M. The Panthers envision him as a free safety, but he has a cornerback's size at 5'11/191. Pugh will start out on special teams if he makes the final roster as a rookie.

Panthers waived RB Daniel Porter, TE Andrew George, K Aaron Pettrey, P Blake Haudan, DB Matt O'Hanlon, and OT Mark Ortmann.

The undrafted rookies were released to make room for the Panthers' draft class signings. Porter starred at Louisiana Tech last season, rushing for 1,132 yards and 11 TDs on 211 carries.

I too said O'Hanlon had a good chance to make the team. Kid seem's to have a good nose for the ball and is in or around a fairly large number of tackles. A good many Husker fan's considered him to be the 2nd best defensive player Nebraska had last year, behind Suh of course. Pretty damn decent for a former walk-on to become defensive captain as a senior and almost make an NFL roster. Kid's got alot of heart.
