Is Steve smith our best player?

I just read an article on smitty's broken arm on ESPN by Yaskinsas and he said "the panthers best player won't be ready for training camp". I really don't have anything bad to say about the article or his opinion but I just wanted to throw this out there...is Steve Smith still our best player?

On a team with Deangelo Williams, jon beason, Jonathon Stewart, jordan gross, Ryan kalil and others...I would say the torch has been passed to either Deangelo or beason....maybe even Stewart but I still say Williams is better right now. What does everyone else think?

Yes. For what he brings to the team and his position he is the best player. But we do have other weapons to make an affective offense. I'd say it's

1. Smith

2. Beason

3. Deangelo

4. Kalil

5. Stewart

6. Gamble

7. Gross ( you have to consider the fact that we've been able to plug guys in at tackle and never miss a beat)

It's definitely an opinion thing but I would say beason or Williams simply bc of there talent and their leadership (especially beason). But you can't go wrong either way, I think smitty is definitely up there.

One thing I've thought of in all this is that we really don't have as much talent on defense as I would like. Beason and gamble are the only real stud players....outside of that it's mainly just potential. With that said there are definitely guys who could breakout this season and be really good (Charles johnson, Louis leonard, Sherrod martin, and so on).

right now, i'd say no, he's 3rd behind DeWill and Beason.

Steve has the biggest impact if injured and not playing. Stewart is hurt was have DeAngelo. DeAngelo is hurt we have Stewart. If Steve is hurt.....we got nothing but potential players that haven't done crap. Smith is the recieving game right now....the RBs are part of the run game. Smith is more important than either RB simply b/c we got 2 of them.

Beason is the defense and a the best leader we have. He imo might be the most important player right now but I wouldn't say he is a bigger playmaker than Smitty.

Smitty is the Panther's best player of all-time IMO and should get a statue IMO.

Is he the best right now? No, not really.

Our best player is easily Beason, without him the team (at least the D) would crumble. He is a biggest key player right now. It all depends on circumstances and opinion.

dewill is lost for the season, we have stewart and vise-versa

smitty is out we could sign a FA (TO or another vet) and continue with our young talent.

if beason is lost, our defense crumbles. beason is unreplaceable with any FA. think about how the steeler defense crumbled when troy P was lost in week 1.

i think beason is the most important player on the team.

Beason may be the most "important" player because of how much the defense relies on him. But Smith is still our best player. There is no one on this team that matches his play-making ability. There is no one else on the team that demands nearly as much game-planning from other teams. He's the best.

    • Maybe, but a player can also bust for a lot of reasons.  And I'm not about to go look up the stats of all the 1st round WR busts, but I'd be surprised if they had the sustained output and success in college that T-Mac had.  Those early WR busts are usually guys who had one breakout season and then were highly drafted because of physical potential, not already built out ability. I'm not even saying T-Mac is 100% going to have a better career than Chark (although I obviously think he will). I'm just saying that right now, his skill level and ability is better than Chark's ever was, and I don't understand how anyone is arguing against that, not because of T-Mac, but because of who Chark himself was.   If you want to take the argument that you can't say ANY player who hasn't played a down yet can't be considered better than someone who has, then so be it (even though I'd say that's a dumb stance anyways). At his peak ability, Chark was more like a #3 WR than anything else, he was the definition of a league average WR.  If you don't think a Top 10 selected WR with his tape is better than that just because they haven't played in the NFL yet, then you're just stuck on the "he hasn't played a down yet" idea and can't evaluate them as players and abilities.
    • And you would've probably said the same thing about a lot of highly drafted WRs who busted.
    • dude..........   You are way to emotional here
