Steve Smith on NFLTA w/ Rich Eisen

here's a summary:

Panthers WR Steve Smith joined “NFL Total Access” on Thursday to add some insight on the broken left arm he suffered last weekend.

Smith, who reiterated that he believes he’ll be back in time for the regular season, told Rich Eisen he has heard all the opinions on his decision to participate in offseason flag football. His opinion hasn’t changed much in the days following the accident.

“I enjoy playing the game,” Smith said. ”To be honest, I’m no different than those guys that I know personally that, right now, are in L.A. and are playing basketball that have multimillion dollar contracts, playing hoops right now. I mean, guys love playing sports. You know? You have contracts, and you shouldn’t. In my opinion, I shouldn’t have been doing it, and I did it.

“Accidents happen.”

Smith did leave us with a couple of things we didn’t know, divulging that he did speak to coach John Fox on Thursday, describing the conversation as “more listening, less talking.”

One concern over the injury is that Smith also broke the same arm — albeit in a different place — at the end of last season. He said he had two more plates and 20 more screws added to the hardware already inserted in the arm.

“Eventually this left arm will be pretty beastly,” Smith jokingly said.

IMO it's not like he was playing Tackle football or like the weather was absolutely horrid that day...he played a game of innocent Flag football (which you can get hurt from I'm sure...) But if they limit the players to non sports activities as a whole they may as well keep them in a bubble somewhere SMH (just reminded me of basketball player Greg Oden; played a pickup game against some regular guys and ended up out for the season)

Obviously Smitty doesn't think it is a big deal but is saying he is sorry so folks let it go and move on. Sounds like Fox wasn't that happy about it. I figure that as long as Smitty is back by the regular season it is no big deal. Smith seems to agree.

Wtf type question was that at the end rich

poo even f*cking froze steve up

smhhhhh

I got ridiculed in another thread for saying this, but if Rich could have asked Steve one question it would have been how Jimmy Clausen was doing and not how his arm is doing. It was obvious he was just getting through the interview to get out the question he wanted. I thought Steve handled it well, and I do think he feels Moore deserves the starting role out of the gate.

To me, Smitty didn't sound too happy with his potential punishment... The part where he says "God forbid I get up and slip on a diaper or something" made it sound like he doesn't like being able to do what he wants on his own time...

I understand the part about being a paid professional athlete, but still, I don't think it is fair that NFL owners and coaches try to dictate so much of what players do off the field, so long as it isn't anything negative...

Yeah, it sucks for us that he broke his arm... but, he was spending time playing football... not out there riding a motorcycle after hitting up the bar scene or something...

this whole thing has been blown WAY out of proportion. blame the media for not having anything else to cover. Im ready for Favre to take a fart so they can forget about Steve Smith

Favre recently went on record as saying he didn't know if he wanted to fart or not. The Minnesota Vikings are fine with that, and expect an answer regarding Favre's flatulence closer to the start of the season.

    • Shutting out the Falcons is still a uniter for the fanbase for the most part. It's just not in the way it used to be or what it once was for  multiple reasons. People who feel like they aren't seeing enough rejoice over it are missing the point. Instances like this would carry more weight if they were more frequent against our rivals for one. For two. This place also as has been noted before has taken on an echo chamber effect the last several years where all the losing has given way to factions of fans either fully apathetic or fully doubling and tripling down in defense of the powers that be and moves and decisions that have been made. And as a result from that the huddle has also moved to a distinct complete lack of outside views and chatter that in the past had been a source of change of pace entertainment and also more importantly a uniting force for fans here to rally around each other in opposition to. We used to have a number of Falcons fans visiting here over the years and driving home how much we dislike them. Same with the Saints. We even had some visiting Bucs fans from time to time. That's all long gone. Until we get back to instances like this becoming more commonplace nothing will change.
    • If true that Renfrow is filling in for the Thielen role then they haven't had any time to develop chemistry with reps in practice. Bryce and AT had 3 years of reps under their belt with each other, we traded AT right before the season started and thrust Renfrow in there. That's not a 1:1 substitution at all, reps matter, that's the short term pains I mentioned with trading Thielen. Maybe they will get to that level but they definitely aren't there yet. I could see it flourishing the second of the season, you can already see a little bit of a connection brewing.
    • Every WR in the league can get vertical if you give them enough time. That’s not what I asked.
