Ok last years number 48 received 4-years, $3.76M ($2.01M guaranteed) with Pat White receiving 4-years, $4.475M ($2.43M guaranteed) who was picked 4 places before.

Explain to me how Jimmy Clausen can suddenly demand 1st round pick money? 5 years for 10-12 million would put him around 28-32 money based off last years salaries...

Pat White was like Edwards, a quarterback in college who has little to no liklihood of being the franchise quarterback.

We tried to move up to get him at 33 but the Rams wouldn't trade so obviously we thought he was worth money in that range. You don't think that will come up in the negotiations?? If he gets less money than 2 million, there will be incentives in his contract for playing time, etc. Lets say we do trade Moore at the end of this season. Do you honestly believe that Clausen will be content being the starter and making 1 million a year. We can either give him what he deserves right away or he will have outplayed his contract by year 3 and we paying a ton more then. If we have any fantasy that he is the future we will pay him well now and keep him happy.

Look at it this way if you pay him 2 million a year for 5 years or 10 million you are way ahead versus paying him 4 years and 5 million and then extending him year 3 with a 30 million signing bonus when he outplays his contract.

Most of the time signings occur from the bottom up. If you look at it we have signed everyone but the top 2 picks. If we had a first rounder it would take longer. It is pretty easily to sign higher round picks as the guys around them fall into place. The hard ones are the first rounders most of the time.
