Why We Should have been this years Hard Knocks

Props to 89bottomline for his comment that this upcoming season will probably be one of the most exciting training camps Carolina has ever had.

I know I'm one of the few people outside of NC who gives a damn about Carolina, and the Jets are the new hotness but seriously what is their Hard Knocks going to be about? Rex Ryan lost 10lbs? LT realizing he's too old and relinquishing his 1 status to Shonn Green. Kris Jenkins coming back from injury, “again!” Revis is unhappy with his contract? Some wide receiver from the Steelers who can’t even play for six games? Mark Sanchez’s sophomore year…..BORING!!!

On the other hand we have a Coach who might possibly be in a lame duck year trying to rally a bunch of rookies after their quarterback had one of the worst implosions in recent history and was subsequently cut on the same day that one of the most talented Defensive players in the league signed with the Bears.

We have another undrafted QB taking the helm who has only started in 8 games his entire career and usually sucks in practice competing with a guy with a cannon for an arm and too very well known college rookies.

Our best receiver will most likely be out for the entirety or training camps after breaking his arm in controversial fashion so just about every wide receiver spot will be up for grabs during camp.

We don’t know who are starting TE will be (ok probably King just cause). We have position battles at FB, DE, DT, RG, KR/PR, literally every special team slot, 3rd Running back, WSLB or MLB depending what happens there.

We have 2 relatively new safeties, a new Strong Side Linebacker. No one on the team is getting big money because of a possible holdout over everyone’s head.

The Drama is Palpable!!!

I know Jerry would probably never agree to do Hard Knocks but if it had happened this year I would have honestly creamed my pants. Still jealous of all you guys who get to go to watch camp.

The Panthers are the last team you'd find on Hard Knocks. You listed all of the reasons that New York got it. Even if you don't find it interesting, you've got to realize that most of America will. Most of America, on the other hand, could care less about the players battling for special teams spots on the Panthers, or our relatively no-name wide receiving corps.

The only battle I could see the rest of America caring about is the quarterback competition, but we all know that Moore is going to start the season.

No body outside of the Carolina fanbase cares. The Jets ARE interesting, believe it or not... for all the reasons you mentioned.

lol dude.... a small market team will never get hard knocks regardless... look at all the teams that have gotten it so far... cowboys will get 3 more hard knocks before we ever get one... if we ever do. that is a guarantee

i'm sure they schedule these things well in advance. likely before the draft if not during the previous season. our QB situation, likely the only interesting thing going on with our team outside of the fanbase, isn't enough to land us the gig. although, it might make it interesting in the next year or two as not only clausen might actually put real pressure on moore for the job but also our RB dream team won't last forever. i'd love to see us get it in the next year or two. maybe just in time to see jarett get cut.

I fully understand why we are not on this show, but there is no reason why the NFL can not expand its TV market.

NFL network should expand to each NFL city.

Work a deal out with cable providers similar to the red zone. An NFL Panthers channel, that also still shows all of the NFL Network shows.

They could totally do this during the off-season.

I would much rather see our training camp then fuggin CANADIAN FOOTBALL!!

I don't think Fox would ever allow it to begin with in his locker room and film room. He has a real disdain for media.

Richardson wouldn't want it either. I think that truly is the biggest oppsticle. You won't see a Hard Knocks in Carolina as long as Richardson is around.

The biggest obstacle is that there are about 20 other teams HBO would rather cover than the Panthers. Get over it.

    • This might be a good time for a Jerry Richardson reference.   ...   Actually, no it wouldn't 😕
    • Nicolas Cage is certainly fun to watch in "Nicolas Cage" roles (Face Off, The Rock, 8MM). Parts generally need to suit his particular persona or things can wind up looking kind of silly ('Not the bees! NOT THE BEEEES!!!") Having him play an actual historical figure... eeehhh, just seems like a bad idea, similar to having Dwayne Johnson star in a biopic about Martin Luther King 😕
    • Dude, I’m sorry but I don’t get your worries about this magical culture and fan involvement. We’ve sucked balls since 2018 because we actually did what you want to do. Limp along and try to win as many games as possible without actually being good. All that does is cause the same problems you didn’t want to gamble on happening. Well, they did what you wanted and what did we get for it? 7 drafts and Young, Horn and Brown, not exactly a SB winning core. We haven’t won more than 7 games since 2017 and you are worried about risking our culture, etc.? That’s silly. Cam and Luke have been gone for 5+ years now. We finally had a draft in 2025 where we actually had our full allotment of picks. We absolutely screwed up by not going full rebuild. Texans did in the same window and they’ve been to the playoffs multiple times and have a much better team. Any fan issues now in Houston even with the Watson massage debacle? I will separate this statement because I get annoyed at back seat driving type comments. Many of us like minded draft followers and GM and wannabes said that we should have tanked in 2022 and traded every guy where teams offered quality picks. You might not like it, but we were 100% correct. Sure, Fitterer might have pissed them away but the Rams 2024/2025 1sts would have been Morgan’s picks. You also have to rebuild through the draft, period, which is why bad teams try build up picks, not trade them all away or don’t take hauls when available. There’s not one team that rebuilt through FA and was successful. It doesn’t exist because the key guys (Eagles OL/DL, Hurts, Mahomes, Kelce, Chris Jones) on Super Bowl teams (Kuechly, TD, Cam) are drafted. I grew up in CT and I went to Pats games when people handed you stacks of free tickets in the parking lot because no one wanted to go to their games. One QB and a bunch of solid OL/D picks and they were a different franchise. We can only hope that Canales is the right coach and that 2025 is the start of drafting well. If I’m being objective, we’ve still got a ways to go.
