Currently the Web largely uses IPv4, Internet Protocol version 4. Each IPv4 address is limited to a 32-bit number, which means there are a maximum of just over 4 billion unique addresses. IPv6 is the next generation Internet Protocol and uses a 128-bit address, so it supports a vastly larger number of unique addresses. Enough, in fact, to give every person on the planet over 4 billion addresses! Update: Dave Evans, Chief Technologist of the Internet Business Solutions Group at Cisco, wrote in to advise that "it's closer to 50 thousand trillion trillion addresses per person." (reference)

Actually there is a lot more left than that. Many companies purchased far more IP space than they really need. The company I work for owns five class B's. Most of them became part of the company thru mergers, but thats still a lot of overkill. Especially considering that we use private address space internally and nat everything behind a relatively small pool of addresses.

I work for an ISP. We used to give out as many static IPs as our customers wanted, for free; we still do that, but not they at least have to justify them to us so we can get them from ARIN. But yeah, I'd be willing to bet a large portion of them are just plain wasted.

      Honestly, 2020 and 2021 were the years we sat on our asses like idiots. First being 2020.  Love may have been the one we missed out on with a trade down or a trade up from our 2nd pick.  And Hurts was a totally viable 2nd rounder to take a flier on after going DB. Love in particular was one of those top guys pre-college season, but he had a lot of TOs his last year and some iffy decision making pegged him back by scouts. If we hired a staff with a decent plan and vision (instead of Rhule and whatever he wanted to do) willing to groom him behind a vet, that may have been the money bet.  2021, it was Fields.  We could've tried him on for size, even if it didn't work, it would have put us in position to draft a QB in 2024. It all sucks.  We chased.

      This aged well (less than 2 weeks). Imagine fleeing Ukraine to get away from violence only to get preventable death at the hands of a "misunderstood victim". The whole city needs a purge.
