2010 NFL Power Rankings: Training camp edition (ESPN)

We can argue that we're better than the Bears and Cardinals going into this season. Bears have even less weapons than we have on offense and their defense will be just as suspect as ours. Cardinals lost Warner and traded away Boldin. Their new Qb, in more times on the field, has yet to look as good as Moore has in very limited time on the field.

And possibly that there is no way the Falcons should be in the top 10, let alone in the top 8.

They have the Falcons ranked 8th. That tells you right away these people have NO idea what they are talking about.

What makes you think the Falcons shouldn't be ranked 8th? Don't get me wrong, by no means am I supportive of the Falcons, just curious why you think they aren't capable of being the 8th best team in the NFL.

The whole "we're small market, we don't get respect" argument needs to end. Indy and New Orleans are smaller markets than Charlotte...

If we are 22nd....they are no where near 8th.

QB that had a good rookie year and then regressed.

RB that has taken a beating the past few seasons....Carolina running game is better.

OL that is not as good as ours.

WR's that are equal to ours.

Defense that is probably equal to ours at best.

I love that they are 8th. Makes it more enjoyable when they once again screw the pooch and miss the playoffs.

For the most part, that's an argument for the Panthers being ranked higher, predicated on the fact that the Falcons are ranked 8th. I see your point and generally agree with most of your comparisons, but I still don't think it's crazy to have them ranked 8th. I'd have them in 9-11 range probably. If a team falls within +/- 3 spots of where I think they should be, then I don't think it's crazy. All these rankings are just a bunch of speculation and opinion - everyone is entitled to their own. If they were ranked 4th or something, then I'd say that's crazy, but 8th is definitely reasonable in my opinion.

8th is a tad high for Atlanta, no doubt, but they're currently better than we are so there's no use in nitpicking on the ranking opinion some lone man gives us. Until we can trounce them and the Saints, and not get upset by Tampa, I don't care what our ranking is. Our only job is to win the division, and right now we are not the kings by any stretch.

Just for fun, let's review some comments from some of last years pre season power rankings shall we (I believe this is an SI ranking)?

http://www.carolinahuddle.com/forum/carolina-panthers/19487-sis-power-rankings-what-a-joke.html

From Gscottnc5:

I don't agree with it at all.

#7 The Saints

#11 Falcons

#18 Panthers

I mean really, the Saints #7. The Panthers are better than 18. Top 12 atleast

*****

From megadeth078:

I know the huddle likes to bitch and moan about being underrated in any and every meaningless power rankings, but I got no problem with this rant. This poo is absolutely ridiculous. What could the Saints possibly have done to warrant being put ahead of not just Carolina but Atlanta also? What are they basing any of this off of, the Saints blowout of the Raiders in the preseason?

*************

From Beaux Berry:

Then again, it's been customary to proclaim the Saints as the best team in the South and a Super Bowl contender. It's not surprising they're doing it again, even after a season in which they went 8-8 with one of the league's best offenses.

From Samuel L Jackson:

Only thing I can say about it is the Saints are not better than the Falcons, and I don't think they're better than us at this point...

The Falcons should be about 8 or 9, we should be around 16-17 at this point, and the Saints should be right behind us...

******

From MadHatter:

Our offense is just as potent as the Falcons and nearly as potent in scoring as the Saints. Even with out DT issues

Our defense is still superior to either of theirs.

The experts will be all over our jocks once we come out of the gates 3-0....beating their sexy Eaglesn Flacons, and Cowboy picks.

f**k the media.

Ahhhhh.....Good Times. :)

    • Yeah I'm not against picking someone with physical tools.  But Josh Allen is creating a lot of fools gold in front offices' eyes.  They still have to be good at football at the end of the day.
    • Trey is the backup QB for SD, Zack Wilson is the backup for Miami.  I don't think BY is even a NFL caliber back up.
    • Honestly it depends on your definition of bust. I think there is an argument to be made that he's not even Top 2 since 2021, and that's coming from one of the bigger anti Bryce people here since before we even drafted him. I think Zack Wilson and Trey Lance both had more pre-draft hype than Bryce did, maybe by a wide margin, and both of them ended up turning out even worse than Bryce has.   Plus the 49ers gave up almost as much as we did for Bryce to take an unproven raw D2 QB who hadn't played in a year because Covid shut that level of football down.  While the Jets turned down all sorts of big offers to take Wilson as well. We made Bryce a bust by making the trade and then taking him, despite him not being liked by many analysts for the same reasons that was clear to so many of us fans.  It was widely talked about being a bad QB draft, so much so that the Bears stuck with Justin Fields for another year and traded away the #1 pick because of it. So as bad as Bryce has been, I honestly don't think he ranks near the top of the all time busts list, mainly because I think people forget he wasn't some can't miss prospect and we're the idiots who made a bad trade to take him to make it just look worse.
