Meat's Rankings

3 words....Darren Sharper's knee

even if he was healthy, he couldn't duplicate what he did last year and that was a big reason they were the team they were last year imo. 9 picks and 3 taken back for TDs....those were huge plays for the Saints. The Saints D ain't very good imo in terms of stopping teams and forcing punts.

I am not knocking there D....but to compare them to the 03 Carolina team that featured that DL imo is a bit of a reach. But I can handle that I guess. Isn't there stud LB out with a pec injury?

what I can't see, is comparing the offensive weapons. Let's assume Jake goes back to Jake of old. There is no Smitty, Moose (03 versions), and Prohel. In addition the skill players they don't have a beastly (and maybe roided out) OL paving the way.

Plus, look at there schedule after week 2?

I got the NFL ticket just to follow the Browns this year. I hope the Browns are contenders....but that would be a miracle imo.

First we were talking about the Saints, which I never mentioned any comparison to the 03 defense of the Panthers.

Then you made the jump to Jake....

I think I'll step out of this conversation now. lol

my bad, that reply was geared toward Meat's statements when he made the direct comparison to the Browns being the 2003 Panthers. I was thinking about that and replied to the wrong post.

And this is will be their second season under their DC, whom is a pretty damn good coach. I'd expect them to improve on defense from last year.

While their turnovers may or may not be as great, their defense should improve overall.

Once again, I hate admitting this, but I'm not going to pretend to ignore the obvious.

sorry about the confusion earlier.

Your right he is a pretty good coach and should make improvements in year 2. They will need to improve in order to make up for some of the turnovers and big plays they likely can't duplicate. My only concern was that imo they need a fairly good amount of improvement if they aren't able to generate those big plays.....b/c teams moved the ball on them pretty well at times.

I probably haven't watch enough to come to a conclusion of they are going to be better yet.

The One: Packers

The Contenders: Saints, Colts, Titans, Patriots, Ravens, Jets, Vikings

The Pretenders: Panthers, Cowboys, Giants, Eagles, Bears, Texans, Dolphins, Steelers, Bengals, Chargers, Broncos, Browns, Redskins, 49ers

The Up-and-Comers: Rams, Lions, Cardinals, Raiders, Falcons

The Elevator Shaft: Bucs, Seahawks, Jaguars, Bills, Chiefs

Packers seem to have the most complete team. I put them above the Taints based on a more solid running game. Vikings have to be a legit contender given how close they were to making it last year, and that they are basically the same team. Skins have a lot of pieces, but are similar to the Cowboys in that they are trying to buy a team. Works in the NBA, not the NFL. Niners, Browns and Cowboys can't beat the 8 legit contenders on a consistent basis, so they can't beat three in a row in the playoffs...though the Browns do have Delhomme, and he gives them their best chance to win. Panthers deserve to be in that group. Not sold on the Jets, but I'll leave them where they are. We'll see if they have enough offense to remain a contender in a few weeks. Falcons move down because, well, who do they have? White, Ryan and Turner ain't gonna win much by themselves.
