WRS smith lafell jarret moore wright edwards.... unless guy does something awsome kick returning he will probably go to the practice sqaud with dexter jackson and if we sign antonio bryant jarret or moore will be cut even though we should give jarret one more chance

We should sign moose before bryant. We should sign hoover (for a WR) before bryant.

Sorry For the Length

My current mock Roster has 41 players that I personally see making the team.

This leaves 12 bubbles spots. Keep noted that this is just the opinion of one fan and is simply and estimation as I have no real insight

Assured (On my List of 41):

Jordan Pugh (Saftey)

Marcus Hudson (Saftey)

Eric Norwood (LB)

Wallace Wright (WR)

Mike Goodson (RB)

Duke Robinson (G)

While my list of 41 is obviously larger I chose to list these players as I felt some people could make arguments against them. Eric Norwood, Jordan Pugh, and Mike Goodson were all relatively high draft picks who I think have no shot of getting cut. Mike Goodson has really started to shine and Jordan Pugh is a lock for the 3rd Safety Spot. While Marcus Hudson did get burned for a TD and Wallace Wright did fumble on the 5 yard line they simply offer too much at special teams. Hudson is a thumper and Wallace should offer help at WR. Duke Robinson just offers too much upside to cut.

Bubble Players (Choose 12):

FB/RB:

Tyrell Sutton

Rashawn Jackson

Sutton is popular among both the fans and the players. He forced that fumble on Special Teams vs. the Titans, can make plays out of the backfield, can play running back, and even fullback. He’s just a good player to have on the field.

CB:

Robert McClain

RJ Stanford

CJ Wilson

I have seen two similar posts about bubble players that both failed to mention McClain. I’m not sure if it’s because he is doing his job so well that no one is talking about him or fans have failed to notice his talent. He was actually valued higher then where he was drafted and I think has a good shot to be the 4th CB. The only problem is we already have an undersized quick DB in Munnerlyn. The upside is he could be a returner in ST. RJ Stanford is bigger and more physical and has looked good on special teams. He had a nice pass break up vs. the Titans. CJ Wilson was being touted last year until he lost his job to Munnerlyn. He has had a good preseason and I could really see us keep 2 of these guys.

DT:

Derek Landri

Corey Irvin

Nick Hayden

Corey Irvin was last rounds 3rd round draft pick who broke his ankle right at the beginning of the year. I believe he is better at getting pressure on the inside then stopping the run. Derek Landri is an overachieving white guy from Jacksonville so John Fox probably has a major hard on for him but he at least appears to play bigger then Nick Hayden, who has ahd 2 whole sacks this preseason. I don’t think he deserves being one of the more unpopular Panthers but I see him being the odd man out here.

LB:

Morty Ivy

Jamar Williams

Now as I am typing this I tend to believe Morty Ivy is a lock to make the team. He is just a great back up and with Davis likely to be on the PUP list most the year, Jamar Williams still injured and Eric Norwood still playing most his plays with his hand in the dirt. The Longer Jamar Williams stays injured the less likely he is to make the team. Sean Ware or Culberson are long shots simply to add depth. It’s interesting how one of teams’ strongest squads going into the season is now probably one of its most depleted.

WR:

Dwayne Jarrett

David Gettis

Kenny Moore

Trent Guy

Oh hey there David Gettis! What’s that you’re faster then both Jarrett and LaFelle despite being the same size and weight as both of them? What’s that you are rarely tackled by initial contact and have more receiving yards than both of them in the preseason? You took huge hits and still held onto the ball? You’re cheaper too?! Oh really….So I have a clear bias towards Gettis but I think his upside is just too great.

Trent Guy looked better at returning punts than Edwards but I was still pretty under whelmed. I think he has practice squad written all over him.

I like Dwayne Jarrett. I want him to make the team and be successful. But he is a 4th year player who has had 5 receptions for 29 yards this preseason. In game three against the Titans I did here some phrases never before linked to Jarrett; “Great Route” and “Beat His Defender.” The end of days is coming?

DE:

Eric Moore

With the amount of pass rushers on this team the numbers are against him but I believe you load up on as much talent as you can. It’s hard to argue with 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles but then again I don’t believe any of this was against 1s. I hope the journeyman finds a permanent home soon I’m just not sure if it is with us.

QB:

Hunter Cantwell

Tony Pike

I’ll admit I was one of those guys who thought Clausen was going to have to beat Hunter for the job. And I’ll also admit that I was dead wrong and a fool for believing that Hunter had any shot at the #2 spot. Now I have no idea what is going to happen here. Are we trying to hide Hunter & Pike? Are we going to try and hide one on the PS? Will they duke it out in a battle royal in the 4th preseason game?

O-Line:

Rob Petiti

C.J. Davis

No it’s not just because he got titiin his name, its just cause tackles tend to be more valued then guards. I could be mistaken but I think C.J. Davis has a little experience at center. Don’t hold me to that one. Honestly as with LB anyone could come in and surprise here as a back up.

Overall, great breakdown and food for thought. Nice job.

I'm actually looking forward to Thursday's game to get a few more looks at some of these guys. The WR's will most likely be shuttling in and out the entire game and we will probably see quite a bit of Cantwell and Pike, especially if Clausen is feeling the toe. On defense the last push for positions will still get us some looks at players that could see significant time on the field this year. You are right about Norwood, every play I saw him in against Tenn. was in the 4th quarter at DE. I think they have some development work to do with him and we may not see much of him except in long yardage situations once the season starts. Eric Moore has his work cut out for him, but he has shown up every single game so far. Great effort and he deserves to be on a roster. I like his motor and heart. I hope Sutton isn't hurt too bad, I think he is a lock if he's on the mend. Thursday will be make or break for quite a few on your list, IMO.

I am so glad Gettis is getting his due. The knock on him was he didn't run crisp routes (fixable) and he is a body catcher. At least he catches the ball. I have been long shotting Gettis/Lafell at the #2, Edwards/Moore as the slot. Wright as a STer.

Gettis has tremendous upside. I was excited when we drafted him. He will be good one day. Hopefully one day this year.

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
