Smith not too impressed with Panthers’ receivers

Frustration.

He has been a part of a team that almost won a World Championship, but lost in the final seconds.

Been on a team that was poised to try to make another run, only to have the QB throw that out the window.

He's been asking/begging for some help on the other side of the field, and the best the FO can do is bring in an aging (very much so) vet.

He knows that he is near the end of his career, as far as being a true elite WR, and his team just went through a veteran purge.

He knows that his team has no shot of winning the Super Bowl (for the most part) this year, and most likely for the next couple of years.

Frustration.

Regardless of wether he's right or not, he shouldn't be saying these beliefs out in the media. It does nothing but risk other players feeling hostile towards him.If the young receivers are already not talking to him why say something that would make them more hesitant to in the future? If he has a problem say it in private.

well, that is the great thing about the NFL....the Superbowl often features teams that had no shot heading into a season.

While I totally understand and somewhat agree with that logic, there are certain teams that have a much better chance than others.

I.E., NE, Indy, SD, Pitt, GB, NO...etc...

We are not in that group, and probably won't be for a while.

Nothing against our team, but we are missing some serious veteran play, and more importantly leadership....as evidenced by this thread.

Again, I don't like airing dirty laundry like this, but I certainly can understand his frustration.

I noticed in the Tenn game he didn't talk to any of the other receivers to offer any help or advice. The only people he hung out with were D-Will and Goodson after he scored. Maybe our young WRs would do better if he acted like a seasoned veteran instead of a whining about who hasn't kissed his ass this week.

This really is clasic Smith. He will never be a mentor cause the thing that drives him to be a good player also drives everyone else away from him. I mean hell Vinny T was the one that inspired Dwill and gave him good advice. Not Foster, Not Hoover or any other Back. Nope it was a QB. Just cause you can play the game dose not mean you can teach someone how to play.

IMO, the NFC doesn't have a Peyton or Brady/Belichick combo. It is a crap shoot.

Smith is a great WR. That is about all we can expect from him. It would be nice to have a WR who would do what Williams did with Stewart........but with Moose gone we will be missing that type role for a couple years.

I would put my money on Brees or Rodgers just as fast as those two

I wouldn't. The Colts have been by far the most consistant team in the entire NFL for a decade. Also, there is no QB/coach duo that has even come close in recent history to matching Brady/Belichick.

There is nothing proven about any NFC team except they can show up one year and disappear the next.

We apply consistent pressure with a diff rent attack every year in the playoffs. :D

I somewhat agree, but to say that we have just as good of a chance to win the Super Bowl as the Saints, Minny, and GB is just not the truth.

A chance, of course, but those 3 have a much better chance than us...as of right now.

    • Still working on consuming all of these so I don't have summaries available, but I figured there might be another Huddler or three trying to kill time before tonight's final preseason game.   Panthers Blueprint: Training Camp The in-house produced Blueprint series has given behind-the-scenes look on the field and off. Start the day with Robert Hunt's family, be in the morning meetings, mic'd up players during practice (Jaycee, Rozeboom, Icky, and Bryce), roster evaluations by the staff, and plenty of camp highlights capping off with FanFest.   Processing Blue (Mike Kaye & Alex Zietlow Mike and Alex are back talking about a variety of topics including but not limited to: joint practice + preseason game vs. Houston, Trey Hendrickson trade rumors involving Carolina, training camp awards, draft pick draft, and various thoughts about the team.   Jordan & Jake 706: Opening Day Another in-house Panthers' production, the most recent episode of Jordan and Jake talk about how to properly balance intensity in practice, react to the starters being shutdown for the preseason finale, share their thoughts on the newest Panther QB, and more.   Raw Room - Ep 278 - Gas Pedal (ft. Mike Davis) Assistant special teams' coach Darren Bates' Raw Room podcast has former Panthers' RB Mike Davis on his weekly podcast. I'm about halfway through this one and it's been a lot of fun. The Raw Room guys (DB, his friend Alex Sweets, former Eagles/Chargers OT King Dunlap, and former Atlanta DB Jalen Collins) are hilarious and Mike fits right in. They talk about his football experience coming up, decommitting from Florida and how he decided on South Carolina, and more. Warning: If you're the type of person that is easily distracted by accents, despite XL being on the team, you might have issues with understanding the Memphis dialect. If you don't care about how somebody talks, just what they're talking about, tune in!
    • Allen was borderline unplayable in College.  He's an absolute unicorn in terms of his career panning out the way it has.
    • It's a step up in competition as well. The gap in athletic skill is narrowed from what was faced at the college level.
