I use just a fork at home, and I use both a fork and spoon if I'm out somewhere. But then I never really order spaghetti when I'm out to dinner because it's messy and I'm paranoid that people are staring at me thinking, "Why doesn't that guy just go back to his mother's teat?"

I never order it when we eat out. At home, I just twirl it on my fork and to hell with a spoon.

fork or spoon. usually a fork. i don't know why the hell you'd need a knife to eat pasta. that's just wrong.

the spoon is typically provided so that you have something to press your pasta against as you start twirling it around the fork, to help make sure you don't have a bunch of pieces dangling off the end of your fork. this is why you usually see them in restaurants, because people don't want to slurp up hanging strands of pasta at a nice restaurant. if i'm at a nice place, i'll usually use the spoon. if i'm eating pasta at home, fork only and my face is about six inches away from the bowl.
