Cut Jarrett...

T.J. Houshmandzadeh-WR- Seahawks Sep. 5 - 4:02 pm et

Coach Brad Childress confirmed Sunday that the Vikings have no intentions of signing free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh at this time.

Minnesota is believed to be Houshmandzadeh's landing spot of choice, but the team isn't going to bring him in before Week 1, if they do at all. Housh needs to start seriously considering Washington. If he signed with the Skins today, he could probably enter the starting lineup before Sunday's opener.

I am not one of those on the "we need to bring in a wr" fans. I figured all along with the not bringing in a vet, no trade or attempt for Boldin, etc the Panthers were going with what they have and I understood that for whatever it was worth. BUT with TJ it is an intriguing though. I dont think he will come here nor will the Panthers pursue him. I also dont know much about what kind of locker room guy or vet he would be here. That being said........ I do not think I would be opposed or upset if the Panthers did bring him in and cut Jarrett. If they did that, I would trust Fox and Hurney's judgement. A WR core with Smith, TJ and the three younge guys does seam much better then A WR core with Smith, Jarrett and the three younge guys.

This is one I would like to see the Panthers consider pursuing and see if they can bring him in..... assuming of course he would be an upgrade over Jarrett.

and you know what? If we did, I wouldn't be upset, because I love this team. whatever they do I'll roll with it, until I see its not going to work. But the constant TJ threads, bashing the FO for not signing him, or another vet, its just plain ridiculous. we are averaging 2-3 TJ threads a day. its obsessive and excessive.

    • Scourton's interviews are telling to me that it's only a matter of time before he could really put it together.  His limitation tool-wise that I see is in his bend, but at the leaner size, it looks like it wasn't a problem at Purdue.   He has a good moveset and reads leverages very well (vet level well).  Plays both the speed/quickness (great change of direction) and has a power game with good hand usage.  Moves from what I've seen in my digs: I'm seeing cross-chop, fake crossers into bull, bull rush, spin (his preferred move of choice), hand shuck.  He's not unrefined by any means.   If he can do 2 things---I'm feeling confident from seeing his interviews that we have a real dude on our hands: 1) Diversifying his moveset/how it's deployed - Over-reliant on some, but again, he has a growing palette.  And is already great with his hands so things are in-place to coach up. 2) Developing a counter moveset and starting to play the chess game with an OT - He's very good at reading leverage, knowing when to change things up during a play.  But NFL coaching should start to teach him how to really create a plan based on an opponent.  What to throw at a guy first, how to confuse with fakes/counters, etc.  How to play against these tackles as a game progresses.   Overall, he has some things that give me serious optimism: Run Defense, speed moves, power moves, he's super young and has the size/length.  When you really spell it all out, I think we should get excited.  Temper expectations from a stat sheet standpoint, but he should be able to go in and make an impact.
