Hidden Strategy ??

Much is said regarding the play calls in pre-season in that teams do not want to give much away. Could this be the case for our offense?

Is it possible we could be using our rbs more in the passing game this season then ever before? Many more screen passes etc..to Dwill and Stew??

Maybe see more 2rb formations?

We have two great rbs, so why not let the defense guess a bit more regarding whos getting the ball? This could also help in the play action.

Thoughts?

Doubling the talent in the backfield doesn't double the effectiveness of the play.

Teams will stack the box suspecting its a run. Probably do a run blitz. If it's a pass then your blitzing against a RB and all D-coordinators like those odds.

For the record I believe Williams has run the Wildcat with Stewart as his HB. So they have been back there together.

We needed the work and Davidson assured us all that our offense would be a secret after 4 pre season games. We were vanilla while facing defenses blitzing 8. Why, what did they learn from that? That they can blitz 8 and shut us down when we had RBs who never blocked anyone and who would not make the team, linemen who didn't plan vs. the blitzes. The Jets game was a horrible joke. Ryan is an idiot. The Ravens was no better. The Titans game is the one that worries me. Steelers--are any of the offensive players still on the roster?

But our D was consistent, and they got pressure with 4. When was the last time that happened?

I still don't understand why people look at the preseason so much and then base a teams talent on the preseason. We were missing starters in every single game. We ran a offensive scheme that isn't even really ours. If anything, our offense will be O.K. and our defense will improve, which is kind of scary to think about. We passed the ball on like 60% of the offensive play calls... HAHAHAHAHAHA, seriously? If an analyst or anyone in the media for that matter thinks we'll pass the ball that much, they've gotta be retarded or smoking crack.

    • It’s definitely a bit of a crapshoot, but Joe covers the team for a living—there’s a baseline expectation that he should have a deep, working knowledge of the roster, positional groups, and overall team needs. That kind of familiarity should come through in the analysis. At times, though, it feels more like he approaches covering the Panthers as an assignment rather than something he’s genuinely invested in. When you read some of the other beat writers at The Athletic, the contrast stands out. There’s a noticeable difference in how deeply they dive into roster construction, scheme fits, player development, and front office philosophy. Their work often feels more detailed, more nuanced, and more connected to the day-to-day reality of the team. That’s not to say Joe doesn’t provide value, but compared to some of his peers, the level of insight and depth just doesn’t always feel as sharp or as thorough as it could be

So which teams are talked about as pulling shockers right now, just a few days out from the start of the draft? Most I’ve spoken with say keep an eye on picks 20, 21, and 22, presently owned by the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Los Angeles Chargers. I’m told cornerback Chris Johnson and linebacker Jacob Rodriguez are in play for the Cowboys with the 20th pick, their second selection in the initial round. Rodriguez is also being spoken about as a possibility for the Buffalo Bills at the 26th pick.
    • Who was better Jon Beason or Jrod???, for college prospect terms in their drafts...   I think its clear and Jon was what 25th?   Jarod does have luke-like traits and that was 9th overall.   I feel Jon had him covered tho....
