Jimmy Clausen era begins?

Clausen? A total scrub?

Are you insane? You can't compare Moore to Clausen. Moore to Jake, perhaps.

Clausen is a different animal; when was the last time the Panthers had one of the top 3 QBs in a draft class on their roster? He is a different sort of player and he may be the kind of QB that can do more than just manage games, but actually win them.

Of course, I kinda expect him to stink it up for his first year, but maybe when the coaching change happens something great can come of it.

I refuse to say that our OL is that horrible yet. Without question they are certainly under performing but I will not say they are absolutely horrific yet.

I wasnt even talking about the Oline. Just how Carr got screwed up. I can name other QB's that started to soon and had their careers screwed.

I'm not willing to scar Clausen. Trade for another QB sure but lets not screw Clausen up yet over 1 season.

I see what your point is but I just disagree. I don't think we will be bad enough to scar him like Carr, Akili Smith and the like. Plus, apparently he is not exactly short on confidence.....

overreaction if you look at the roster last and compare it to this year there's a lot more holes to fill......i really can't expect much from moore or clausen when our line is garbage and our running game is secondary and stupid calls from the coaching standpoint.

yes moore is suckin it up but im not ready to jumpship to clausen due to the lack of talent we have

I'm not the only one that saw Moore have 3 passes dropped on him and have Gettis forget to run until the ball was in the air on that deep overthrow right? Moore didn't look very good today, but he didn't get much help either. Clausen was playing against a prevent defense taking nothing but the underneath stuff like they wanted him to. I'll hold judgement on him until we see him playing against a defense blitzing and attacking rather than sitting back.

Carr's skittishness was largely created by getting sacked an absolutely insane amount of times. He was literally getting smacked around every game. Our guys haven't been getting killed like that this year yet. Hit more than they should, yes, but a lot of that has to do with putting ourselves in bad situations on offense.

Seeing how much improved Josh Freeman is in his second year kinda makes me wanna see more Jimmy Clausen. Sure, Freeman stunk it up last year, but seeing him make plays today with both his arm and his legs gives me hope that maybe starting a rookie will have benefits later. Freeman didn't do anything amazing, but maybe Jimmy Clausen should finally get his shot. fwiw

Understand the rationale, but trade what? For who?

Only guy I could realistically see coming in right now is Josh McCown.

Another thing to remember too, Fox pulled Jake in the first game last year and Jake went on to start 10 more games after that. It's anyone's guess really.

I really hate temporary benching, especially of starting QBs. If you sit 'em, leave 'em.

I also hate playing rookies too early.

There's no win for me no matter what happens here.

Moore doesn't look like the same guy as last season. In fairness, it's not all his fault, but he's definitely played a part.

I'm torn on the best thing to do now.

I can agree to a point. It was not all Moores fault! But I think sometimes when a team loses confidence in it's QB you see the mistakes start piling. I truly believe he has lost the team. Of course starting Clausen was not on the top of the list, but the circumstances call for it don't you think?

    • Today, we are all Kucci... I miss our feral Russian attack goalie!
    • That was a good segment. Watched every minute of it and would highly recommend it to all fans.
    • "So much of what the Panthers are going to do next week isn't dictated by their preference, but by what happens above them. That's another benefit of not getting locked into need. For instance, if you're thinking you want a receiver, seeing five or six of them go off the board and reacting by taking the sixth or seventh off your list instead of the first (or second or third) something else isn't necessarily wise." https://www.panthers.com/news/ask-the-old-guy-back-into-the-weeds-of-the-nfl-draft-bryce-young-charlotte-hornets-mock-draft This is what some don't seem to get, I don't care how many times it is said: You're NOT going to draft an inferior person at one position, just because that position is perceived as, or is in fact, a bigger need. That would basically nullify, or at least lessen, the reason why you set yourself up via free agency to be able to take the BPA/BAP on the board in the first place.  Yes, the process is complex, very much involved and ongoing, but the overall philosophy is not rocket science. You set yourself up in order not to be pigeonholed into taking a lower graded player at the expense of a higher graded one. This is why Morgan, Gantt and countless of others say the same thing. This is why it's just nonsensical to set yourself in a position where you don't have to, but then act like you have to come hell or high water: "Oh, we have to draft [whatever position], and we can't draft [this position]."  I'm good with whatever they do, until proven otherwise, but even then, you have to be mature enough to know that drafting is an imperfect exercise, filled with hits and misses. And, you generally don't know if you've hit, and especially missed, right away. Moreover, like I've said before, sometimes two players--different positions or not--can both be hits on their respective teams, so in that sense, it's not purely about a right or wrong pick as much as it's about putting puzzle pieces together at the time the best way that you know how.  At the end of the day, people are going to believe what they want to believe, but one thing that's true is that what the Panthers do regarding the draft is dependent upon what others do, and what others do can and does change things. That being the case, it's just another reason why you can't go in with tunnel vision. The thought of doing that is preposterous.
