Fox/Davidson Play Design

Have you ever played a game of Madden and the guy you're playing apparently cheeses with only 1 or 2 plays that he's apparently had success with in the past, so he keeps running it thinking it's going to break open eventually. Even after you continue to kill it he just keeps running it, and eventually you start causing turnovers and bust the game wide open and blow them out.

That's John Fox. Who didn't know where Stewart was going on the 4th and Goal? We run a TE in motion to the side we run to and rarely deviate from that. Or maybe our famous 'motion the #2 WR to the position the TE usually lines up' at and run it to that side.

As I said yesterday, we only deviated from the run, run, pass sequence maybe once or twice in the first half, it's not hard to figure out what we're doing. It's gotten to be a joke... I'm seriously wondering if Fox really is doing it to stick it to JR and make him get rid of him.

4th down, inside the 5.. run 3 straight run plays.. Stewart is in.. how in the hell do you not playaction a pass to Rosario.. send him on a slant to the left of the endzone.. even have Jimmy roll to the left if needed.. granted he has a hard, awkward throw to make, but it's 5 yards, he has the arm strength to do it..

This is my problem with 'em... the play calling was somewhat better today, but we are SO predictable it's ridiculous.

We passed the ball on 1st down 1 time before the middle of the 3rd quarter yesterday. When you go run/run/pass any average defense can defend that. I am not saying we need to throw on 1st all the time but once in a while we have to. When you have 3rd and 7 or 8 and you know the panthers have to throw Moore seems to panic. If they would just mix it up a little maybe it would be 3rd and 2 or 3 and playaction or a run might actually work then. Just a thought.

Lets face it... Fox and the entire staff know they are gone at the end of the year. They are just putting it on auto pilot and going with it. The game plan for the Giants looked almost the same for the bucs and I would not be surprised if the Cincy game looks the same as well. The good news is Fox is gone this year.

Its hard to have any type of balanced/innovate playcalling when your QB (Moore) can't even pass the ball. Other teams are going to load the box with 8-9 guys and let Moore be Moore.

*side note:*

You guys are bashing Jarrett too much. I think if or when he lands in Seattle, he's going to do some big things up there.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
