Smith is real angry now. I'm finally excited.

For some reason I feel like things might have come together at the end of this game. Everyone did their best to get mistakes out of their system.. including Clausen. But we saw some real progress down the stretch and most importantly guys wanting to make some plays. Even the playing was much better.

I don't know how else to describe it. Whether Jimmy or Matt starts next week (think it should be Jimmy) I think we are going to see guys getting serious about their professions and starting to make some plays. I think that Smith is finally engaged in this thing and is done accepting what we've all been seeing.

LOL wow, he just kind of called out the coaches as well. Good. Somebody needs to get out of pocket right now. But, I will admit, I saw Smitty coming across the field on drag/slant routes a couple times with a step on the DB and Clausen threw to someone else, so that's probably where a great deal of this is coming from.

Hey Smith you moron, the team was 0-2 with your boyfriend in there as QB. The team SUCKS no matter who is QB. Let the kid develop, someone let you develop at one time.

It's only natural for a player like Smith to get a little heated. Fact is, we don't know what he said to Clausen. All I know is I have no problem with what Smith and Clausen said in the link above.

I'd be more concerned if Smitty wasn't angry, to be honest.

smith is pissed because clausen wouldn't keep forcing him the ball.

the one time he did try to force it, it was intercepted..

i myself think clauses is too cautious at times, but he does know how to protect the football.

Smitty probably wants the ball cause there is NO other WR that can or has made a play. so far. One thing you can count on Smitty for, is to FIGHT for that ball. Have NOT seen that from the other "WRs" on the team...yet. Until then, Smitty is the only legit threat we have at WR or TE and of course he wants the ball :(

I thought Smith wanted to be a #2? Yeah, right.

I am sure that a lot of this is just frustration. Smith feels like he is getting open and the QB is not getting him the ball. However, this is really the first week that Jimmy has really gotten to work with Smith much and Smith missed a day or two of practice.

Their timing will get better.

Also, I don't think SS was calling Jimmy out or calling for a QB change, he is just frustrated. Really though, the team has needed SS to get mad for a while now. He is a veteran that everyone in that locker-room will listen to. If he is fired up and passionate the wake of his emotion will probably sweep everyone else up with it.

You can't really blame Clausen. Smitty didn't practice most of the week and this is the first time Clausen has even practiced with the ones. He really put it together in the second half. It is definitely something to build on and I look forward to next week. They need to stick with Clausen now and let him learn. If they keep changing QBs they are going to kill everyones confidence in both QBs and they will be screwed for the long haul.

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.

    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
