Panthers Would be 3-0 With Vick

Didn't Flacco have the worst qb rating going into week 3?

Flacco's been doing it now going into his 3rd year.

Another great day would be one of many during his young career, including leading the Ravens deep into the playoffs his first two years. At 2-1 you can expect more of the Ravens this year.

We had legit offensive weapons in the back field in Deshaun Foster and Stephen Davis.

Foster ran for 900 yards that year at a 4.3 YPC average.

We ran for over 200 yards when we crushed the Giants 23-0 in the Wild Card game and ran for over 100 yards the next week versus Chicago in round 2 of the playoffs.

The problem by the 2005 NFC Championship game everyone remembers from that year is injuries devestated the Panther back field. Jamal Robertson was our tailback that game. Of course the Hawks triple teamed Smitty that game, by the end we were done.

But on offense, neither Foster nor Davis was as good as our two running backs now. I am not sure either one of them was even as good as Goodson. Our tightend's now are certainly more talented. Not sure about the offensive line, but it seemed we blocked better in 05 than we do now.

Could it be argued that Delhomme was more talented than Clausen/Moore? :)

Regarding the defense, imo linebackers are about even. Secondary in 05 was more experienced, but I don't think there is much difference in the talent level. Of course, the defensive line then was much better and that did make a big difference. So we probably had more talent on defense on that team, but less on offense.

The difference imo is that the 05 team executed better on both sides of the ball. The offense rarely turned the ball over and the turnover ratio was plus 16. We didn't get penalized a lot (best I can remember). We just flat out executed better.

I've been a fan of Vick as a player since his VT days and wish we would've got him...

But, I'll co-sign with KK here, the playcalling is a huge problem.

Anyone else notice that each of the first 3 weeks our game commentators have said something along the lines of our offense was "repeating plays" or we're "too predictable"?

Let me make sure we have the same understanding of the words being used. Execution is when you run the play properly. Poor execution would be a WR running the wrong route, or running a sloppy route. Talent for a WR would be speed, and the abilty to catch the ball.

Let's look at a player on our current team.

Brandon LaFell, our 78th pick, drafted to be our #2 WR. He has dropped a lot of passes this season. His drops don't have anything to do with execution. His drops are directly related to hand-eye coordination and small hand size. That shows a lack of talent at being a WR.

I'm not going to go player by player, but I'm fairly cetain we don't have enough talent on this team to go to the NFCCG with better execution.

Fixed it for ya

Had the Panthers selected Flacco 13th overall instead of Stewart who is contributing nothing currently to the Panthers they might well be 3-0. DWill, Goodson and Sutton is all a team needs in the back field to succeed.

Flacco had another outstanding day today: 22/32 for 262 yards and 3 TD passes.

Jimmy Clausen's pick could have been another wide receiver last April. The domino effect goes on and on.

Micheal Vick will never be a Panther, the owner of the Panthers doesn't like emplyees with sordid pasts, much less Felony convictions and jail time. It's his right, whether you like it or not, it is what it is.

No we wouldn't......especially the way he played last week. What we need is a potential #1 WR along side Smitty. A.J. Green could be that guy...

I'm just pissed I didn't start him in Fantasy today. Dude racked UP. Then again, my main starter is Brady so it'd take guts to sit him.

Eh, I started em :)

I don't like MV as a person, never will, but he has certainly grown as a player.

He is better than he was before prison, and actually looks like he is trying to play QB instead of RB.

lol Michael Vick is awesome. I'm not even gonna bother going back to the whole Michael Bolton fiasco and how the vast majority of this board acted like he was a terrible QB. If I did that I might as well dig up the millions of posts about how the Saints wouldn't win a playoff game last year.

Good laughs here though.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
