We are the Detroit Lions

Brooklyn Bully

Our predictability has finally caught up to us. Execution being perfect or not, we are so vanilla.

Who is controlling the offense? Fox? Richardson? I refuse to believe it's the OC, We had pretty much the exact same play calling when Henning was our OC.

Marty Hurney is a pretty good GM, and his track record stands or it.

What track record is that? Drafting known good players? That's no skill.

Playoffs...once in the last five years (I'm adding in this year).

Hurney is...average. Just like our team.

Now on WFNZ they're debating why did guys like Pep leave, and why did all the D coaches leave like Trgo? Buck said, "they saw the writing on the wall...they didn't want to go backward and re-build...they saw the direction this team was going."

Known good players? What does that even mean? No college players are "known good NFL players."

A caller just said this on WFNZ. It's not that bad yet, but he made some interesting points...

- We have an owner who is going cheap

- We have a GM who is very good friends with the owner and will not be fired

- We have a GM who can't evaluate talent (forget the obvious ones: Beason, Kalil, etc. We knew they'd be great. We're talking the other picks and FA signs)

- We fired some of the scouting department making more work for the others

- If things don't get better, free agents WILL NOT want to come here to play

- Why would DeAngelo and Beason want to re-sign here?

They've been back and forth over those points and others, and again, it's not as bad as Detroit. But damn, I sure hope this "youth movement" works. Keep in mind though, just because they're young doesn't mean they'll pan out. You have to have the right young guys to begin with.

Do we?

Really???? the talent we have a problem evaluating would WR's and QB's. We find very good O-line men in later rounds, db's mid rounds etc... Its offensive evaluation that is lacking dont know why but it shows this year big time. Detroit didnt have a probowl player the last few years Calvin might be the exception but we have talent up and down this roster to compete with any team. Probably more than a lot of other teams how we USE THAT TALENT might make us resemble detroit but besides that we are closer to the Steelers when Tomlin took over or Bucs when Gruden got a gift waiting for a creative mind to infuse life into us.

You've got to be kidding me with this. No player is a guaranteed "good player". Give the man some credit.

I'm talking Rounds 3-7. Yes, rounds 1-2 can still be a gamble. But you can draft with confidence and it's not as much of a question mark. For every Pep, Beason, DeAngelo...there are too many wasted picks that followed with scores like Goodson and Hardy sprinkled in.

This is the same for ANY GM. I know this. But I think we all think too highly of him. There's nothing wrong with looking at him and asking if we could do better.

First off, this wasn't ME saying this. I'm telling you what the guy on the radio said, and am discussing it.

Otah was a good pick. Gross was a good pick. Kalil was a good pick. They weren't late round picks. Wharton was. Where are these other late round men you speak of?

DBs? Godfrey and Marshall are hated on this board when they screw up. Ricky Manning? Collin Branch? Nate Salley? No. No. No. Captain? Yes!

I agree that we are terrible with WR evaluation and what we've done with the QBs.

Hangartner, Schartwtz, Beanrnadu,

Both Mathis and Butler have started some/entire seasons for other teams. Showing that hurney was right to see the talent.

Schwartz pretty much sucks, Hangartner never was amazing, Bearnadu isn't looking so hot right now. Mathis and Butler are starters elsewhere?

Sorry, still don't see the talent.

If you want to argue he can evaluate a guy who will be second string, over a guy who'll not even be in the league after a year, I'll give you that.
