Seriously Steve Young?

Why was he hating on us so much after the game? Talking about how we think we are a good team but they need more passing? Is that just the inherit QBness talking? If you run at will for 7+ YPC and for 300 yards, why on Earth would you throw the ball? Ask Peyton Manning if he would like to have a 300 yard running back tandem. Or Tom brady or anyone else. As a lifetime SF Bay Area resident, I've always had respect for Steve Young, but I wanted to bitch smack him after tonight. Anyone else get irked by this?

I actually agree with Young's assessment and think it was moronic for Stu Scott to argue with him. Of course you need a consistent passing offense to go along with a running game; we can't run it at will every single game so we're gonna need solid play from Jake.

If we want to be a contender in the playoffs we need better, more consistent play from Jake to go along with our run game. If we become one-dimensional teams will eventually catch up to that.

and why should we care what steve young or any lame brain pundit says?

I agree with you about not listening to experts or pundits Dellinger, I usually laugh them off, I just think it was funny how much he didn't credit us for what we did. And that pick that landed in Phillips lap was just laughable. We still had a 100+ yard receiver, and Moose played very well also.

I am not sure but it looked like Stew and he weren't on the same page on that second one. They were both great plays by the defense I thought rather than hideous throws/decisions. The decision of his I thought was bad was taking that sack instead of throwing it away in the RZ. He DOES need to throw it away more often, that I grant you. I also wonder about the tipped balls. They said during the game that he has had a ton this year. Since he never had an inordinate amount before I wonder if the tweak in his mechanics due to his elbow is causing an issue there.

Mr. MVP himself( Drew Brees), threw 3 INT's against the Bucs, so it's not like they are an easy team to throw on or anything.

Anyway, the Panthers threw the ball enough to loosen up the defense for the running game so what's the big deal? I really don't get why people are all over Delhomme after this one.

That is the point I was trying to make Monstercat. You hit the nail on the head. I know Jake can be inconsistent at times, but give me a break. Pundits crack me up. Two 400 yardgames and they are talking trade Brady and keep Cassell, and look at him now. Don't jump on anyone too quickly Steve, Jake orchestrates the game pretty well, and plays better in the clutch than most I think.

Case in point, on the Smitty TD throw, I was shouting at the screen that the RB was WIDE open for a moderate gain on the screen, and he had vision enough to go deep to Smitty. Anyone see that?

i didn't see it as hate. i saw it as true constructive criticism for some things that we need to improve on. i saw him as someone who respected what we did tonight and said somethings that if we do manage to put into practice, things that will honestly make us better, then we will go all the way.

he was giving us the recipe for further success.

My sister called me from Boston (Panthers fan) just to tell me about his comments...seriously....how many concusions has he had!?!?!

He just said Peppers could play quarterback if he wanted, he's that much of an athlete

Steve Young did just say..."that was the most dominating drive, 3 plays 90 yards, I've ever seen in the pros."

But saying, "I don't like all the pumpfakes, that won't be a completion in January." talking about the TD to Smitty...THAT PLAY WAS SICK! IDK What the hell he's talking about..."Running in quick sand"?

Oh...those GMEN were really "clicking" on all cylinders Sunday...whatever...let him talk...but he did say if we bring it ALL together we will make a Super Bowl run.

...and they're giving us some "Smash and Dash" credit ;-)

Man, I love watching Sportscenter when they ACTUALLY talk about the Panthers (let along revolve the show around us)...this is great!

    • Poster board? Were you trying to use the term poster child?
    • I mean, you're acting like we don't see the tippy-toe bunny hops, jump throws more than normal (with both feet dangling in the air every which a way), and off-platform but off-balance throws that arrive short or sail high. Could that be bad mechanics due to being short? Could a seeming propensity to bail the pocket towards the sidelines early as opposed to sitting in the pocket tall and strong, surveying his reads, be an attempt at trying to see an open throwing lane? I'm not saying that what you're saying isn't a contributing factor to what has been an underwhelming display of executing the QB position, but this is year three, and if the lightbulb hasn't switched on by now---if you haven't figured out that guys are faster, stronger and generally more athletic, then what's it going to take? It's hard to forget that "mental processing" was supposed to be Bryce Young's superpower. Are you telling me that he can't nail down such an easy concept as, "I can't get away with the things I did in college at the pro level," is that right? If he can't get past that, then that surely limits his ability to successfully execute all the other stuff.  Look, I'm not trying to be flippant. I acknowledge that playing pro football is more complex than a lot of fans realize, but all we can do, as fans, is observe. One of my favorite things to do is just look at the greater picture and think what part human nature is playing in the many decisions that are being made or have to be made. You're absolutely correct that fans don't know exactly what's going on, but that is by design, and in many ways it's just the nature of the beast. Some things we can't know. That being said, the professionals screw the hell up all the time. The professionals disagree all the time. These disagreements can be within the same franchise or from franchise to franchise. And sometimes these decisions are all over the place, so excuse me if I ain't exactly buying the I-know-more-than-thee sentiment and that that means that professionals always make better decisions than fans would about certain players. Some of this stuff is simply luck or a crapshoot.
