Jimmy Clausen is a bust

Why are we starting Jimmy Clausen? Why did we even draft him? Did the Panthers not watch him at Notre Dame? He's been overrated on every level of football he's played and like Moore he has below average arm strength and unlike Moore he isn't too bright.

We need to start Matt Moore again. He throws a nice spiral despite the lack of velocity on his passes.

Stop billing this bum (Clausen) as the future of the Carolina Panthers. OK, I can understand if Moore isn't the future, but Clausen definitely isn't.

Let's stop wasting draft picks and not use the 1st overall pick in the draft next year on AJ Green or Julio Jones. How about we do something smart and draft Andrew Luck?

Seriously, Andrew Luck is basically the next Dan Marino. He's got the exact same kind of lightning quick release and he's better than half of the QBs in the NFL right now as a college player.

Right...because one lousy start is all you need to tell if a talented kid is going to be a franchise QB...

most reactionary post of Week 4.

Clausen is a good QB...if he doesn't get ruined by this pathetic excuse for an offense. Davidson is one of the suckiest OCs in the league.

Why draft a QB in the top 5 next season when we drafted 2 (and kept Pike on the roster) just this past draft? We've got MUCH bigger needs than another young QB.

So you've been able to determine Clausen is a bust after seeing him play in 1 NFL game against a very good defense in the pouring rain?

Hands down, Clausen has looked better than Moore this year - that's not even debatable. Mike Mayock among many others believe Clausen has top 10 draft pick talent at QB. Like any rookie starting QB, it's going to take Clausen some time to get his bearings.

I don't get why you're trying to defend him. Anyone who saw him at Notre Dame knows he doesn't have the tools to be a franchise QB. If you're not gonna have arm strength you could AT LEAST be accurate. Too bad Clausen fails at that too. He's just a hype machine cause he played at big time programs on the HS and Collegiate level. He's got NOTHING.

We'd be better off starting Tony Pike RIGHT NOW. Unlike Clausen, Pike actually showed he had NFL potential in college and didn't throw a bunch of lollypop jump balls because actually has an ARM.

If Pike isn't the answer, then we just need to accept our mistakes and get Andrew Luck. I guarantee Andrew Luck is going to a great NFL QB just like Mark Sanchez. Those are 2 guys with REAL talent. Unlike this fugazzi Clausen.

If we have a top 5 pick what do you propose we do? Draft a WR? We're gonna need a new QB anyway most likely.

I certainly haven't drunk the Claussen Kool-Aid yet, but let's give the kid a break. He's not looking that bad and he shows signs of being able to learn on the run. He might just have what it takes to make it. Or he might not. One game isn't enough to tell.

I tried drinking the Clausen Kool-Aid but it tastes like crap.

How about we trade for Brodie Croyle? I've always liked him... real talent... or even Kevin Kolb, he could be the future.

this thread is full of fail. im not usually one of the ones to give the OP crap, but come on man. you cant say if we watched him in college we would now he sucks. I watch every ND game, win or lose just like i do the panthers. I can tell you must follow another team, maybe UNC is your team, who knows? but you surely dont know what you are talking about on this..

    • You don’t even need 1b because Tepper is the only one foolish enough to wheel that deal.    Player wise? Jake’s elbow. JR and Pep getting sideways, no Carruth, Cam’s shoulder, Luke’s concussions, it would be a long list of stuff. You can take it down to certain plays in games. Fox chasing 2 point conversions in the SB would be on my list. RMJr slipping at the end of that same game was not helpful.
    • Ultimately this just amounts to heavy revisionist history. I mean you aren't talking to someone that just popped out the womb a week ago. I was here all throughout the predraft process. The overwhelming majority of the fanbase felt like this was a fine situation and the best situation for a rookie QB to go to compared to Houston for example. The hype for Young and our "rockstar" staff was off the charts. No one could dare speak cautious skepticism of his abilities or they would be neg repped into oblivion. Only after he had one of statistical worst rookie seasons of the last 25 years did we get this narrative now that his rookie season actually shouldn't count. Complete malarkey if you ask me.
    • On the field? Since I guess it qualifies as multiple instances it might not count, but have the damn refs throw some flags on illegal hits to Cam's head in SB50. If that doesn't count, 1A. Cotchery caught it 1B. Kasey keeps that kickoff inbounds. Off the field? 1A. Team is sold to anyone but Tepper 1B. We have the patience not to mortgage the franchise on that Bryce trade. Stroudwpuldve been the better pick but he's not worth it either.
