Jimmy Clausen is a Coward

You're right - he should be a real man like Moore and throw multiple picks when nobody is open.

And that's the ball game.

Not forcing balls to Receivers who aren't open isn't being "cowardice"

It's not being an idiot.

Once again..this could be remedied some with better play calling..

First off, he's really just a kid. And a hell of a lot is being asked of him.

That being said, he's had someone coaching him to do this job since he got pubes. Really.

Claussen isn't comfortable out there and his mechanics are reflecting that. Slow wind-up, low delivery and he rarely looks to the right-hand side of the field, missing open receivers. In addition, he has what a poker player would call a tell. He puts his mouthpiece over his facemask for the first part of his call then reaches up to grab it and put it in his mouth. No adjustments are made after that move and he will call for the hike within two seconds of putting the mouthpiece in.

That tell is a fantastic one for observant defensive players. They can make one more shift as he reaches up and the Kid can't make an adjustment. A D-lineman can watch the mouthpiece move and start an internal count to better anticipate the snap.

Another major problem with the Kid is just his inexperience in calling out protection schemes. He just can't do it yet. Sadly, this is how a QB learns to do it, by getting plastered time and time again.

But, that's what they write him the big check for each week. And remember, he waived his senior year of college play because he felt he was ready.

The Coward comment is ridiculous. But I am concerned about his relatively slow delivery, low release point and high number of balls batted down. Can't seem to throw the ball over the middle at all.

I have to agree that roookie QB Jimmy Clausen has some issues concerning his overall game and the fact he has rookie WR's just makes them stand out.

Can his negative issues be corrected? Maybe!Maybe not!

And even if he fixes all that, he has nobody to throw the ball to with Smitty out.

Give me at least two legitimate NFL WR's and then I'll judge Clausen.

I am almost ready to put Armanti at QB just so he'll fail

miserably and App State fans will shut up about it.

Agree, Armanti has a role but it's not as an every down QB... he would make Clausen look like Peyton Manning.

Don't tell me about how Armanti could scramble, teams are already stacking the box against us and Armanti doesn't have the kind of scrambling ability at the NFL level to be a Vick-like dual threat.

    • interesting podcast. Did my best to summarize  1  none understand why rico isnt getting 100% of snaps 2  dalton  is seasoned veteran  and for this game, could he more of a challenge for bills than young   Better arm and   Familiar with  mcdermott defense.  Has seen everything    Impressed with Tet  and Panthers do not have bad receivers and impressed by size  3  not impressed with bills passed game and Allen is being held back because of it. bills do not seem to have a consistent vertical  passing game  as in past.   No intermediate More Short passes for YAC and that hurts Allen    Could be to control pace and tempo of the game given the bills defensive weaknesses    Need intermediate to stretch zone defenses  4 bills have several returning from DL from suspension this game on defense that could help  5  atlanta beat bills offense by  blitzing  and played ton of man coverage.   No structured intermediate passing game for bills   Bills had no answer for atlanta defense either blitzes and man to man coverage    Rushed 5 or more on over 30% if Allen’s drop backs  6  compliments the panthers defense   Up and coming but has issues. Last in pressure on qb   Last in DVOA and coverage of TEs
    • jesus christ, what weird subforum did I stumble upon where people are talking like Dalton is this incredible back up that is going to throw for 400 yards and 4 TD's like we haven't seen him in this role before, and that there is this master plan to fake Bryce's high ankle sprain in order to bench him during a winning season with favorable stats?
    • It is strange, but no less surreal than him being the 1.1 in the NFL draft.  If I were in the situation the team is in, I would be Not want to aggravate that injury and would be overly cautious. He needs to be fully healthy so he can properly evaluated in these games that are coming up.  They see Dalton in practice, they saw the film from Sunday. Maybe he has looked good enough that they think a side benefit to the caution is getting to look at the offense with a different guy running it.    The worst thing that could come out of it is Bryce is hampered the rest of the season
