How can anyone justify Moore over Clausen at this point?

100% of Brad Smith's passes are TDs...see how stat's mean nothing? I'm done arguing with you because obviously you are set in your ways that not turning it over somehow trumps scoring points. I just don't see how that makes sense but I'll take the high road and wait until we play the 49ers to see what makes sense.

So how many passing attempts does Brad Smith have this year compared to Moore and Clausen?

Sorry - that's an apples to oranges comparison.

Got anything else?

Well, you thought wrong... but don't take my word for it, go to one of these ESPN chats and ask an expert what the # 1 job of a QB is, you'll get the same answer.

P.S. the # 1 job of the QB is to protect the ball (maintain posession) because there is a direct correlation between the QB maintaining posession and winning.

Not close. The main job of a running back is to gain yards and protect the ball.

The job of the quarterback is to direct the offense, read the defense, make approriate adjustments and either hand off the ball or throw it to make first downs and score points. If all the Qb had to do was protect the ball he could kneel down 3 times every possession and punt. Maintaining possession as you yourself said is a function of making first downs, moving the sticks and scoring points. Clausen has done none of those. In his three games he has averaged less than 100 yards a game and less than 5 yards an attempt. Only 24 of his 91 passing attempts have gone for first downs. That translates to 2 passing first downs a quarter or 8 a game. On third down he is 7 for 29 on making first downs or 24%. Absolutely dead last in every category way below that other rookie, Bradford.

My point was that stat's can be skewed any way you want them to. Moore doesn't have that many pass attempts either but you make it seem like his whole career he has been a turnover machine when that's not true.

I'm talking about this year, comparing what Moore did last year to what Clausen is doing this year would not be fair either.

Once again, we'll have to agree to disagree.

Do you not get that even with Moore's interceptions he has still put up more points per game than Clausen?

Or if you can't answer that...What good is not being able to move the ball even if you don't turn it over?

Right, 2% more scoring and 7% more interceptions.

    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
    • I think people aren’t patient enough with Young. It can take a few years for a QB to develop. Look at Darnold, Baker and most recently Daniel Jones.   he hasn’t been able to put up big passing numbers either cause of how much we run the ball. You can tell our coaching staff still hasn’t took the training wheels off Bryce and let him go all out. We’ve had some pretty bad receivers as well. We finally got a true number one last year and look how much Bryce improved. Still we didn’t really have any depth behind TMac. Coker was hurt for a lot of the year and XL was our #2. How many big plays or TDs has XL dropped? I think this year can be the year we see Bryce able to hit his stride. If not then we can start looking for another qb but I just ask people to be patient.
