What Team could the NFL do without?

In no particular order within each category:

Most important 25% of the NFL: Packers, Giants, Eagles, Cowboys, Redskins, Bears, 49ers, Steelers. These teams have roots in the early NFL.

Middle 50% of the NFL: Saints, Falcons, Jets, Dolphins, Ravens, Bengals, Vikings, Broncos, Chargers, Texans, Colts, Titans, Seahawks, Raiders, Patriots, Chiefs. Newer teams in the NFL and many old AFL teams.

Least important 25% of the NFL: Jaguars, Bucs, Lions, Browns, Panthers, Cardinals, Rams, Bills. These teams are characterized by some or all of the following: small markets, lackluster fan bases, inability to sell out their stadiums, transplanted teams, erratic record of competitiveness or improvement if they are a relatively new franchise (inception past 15 years).

I don't think that there any teams that the NFL could do without. I do believe that there are teams that have run their course in the market they are in.

Buffalo: Their stadium is crumbling down around them. The NFL allows them to play in Canada for a reason, they just draw more people! The Bills need a change of scenery!

It would not surprise me to wake up some morning and discover the Bills have moved to someplace like Salt Lake City and have changed their names to SLC Utes.

Jaguars: They had to tarp off a bunch of seats so that they could claim Sell Outs! Dolphins & Buccaneers consistently have more devoted fans. (Maybe not better records, but more loyal following!) Was it last year or two years ago. Jax was a Wild Card team and almost had a black out of the TV broadcast! (In all fairness, I think they were playing the Texans if I'm not mistaken.) They are #2 on my list to move!

The NFL wants a team in LA so bad that Roger has nightmares about it! I don't see why the NFL can't get a gleaming new stadium built and Jacksonville relocated there.

I would have said these teams a few years ago:

Seahawks: I WOULD have Seattle a few years ago, but for one fact. Paul "I have more money than God" Allen. New Stadium, Owner doesn't care about making or losing money! Other than the (cough) Mariners what else have the people to do? So I take them off my list!

Raiders: Love him or hate him, whoever wrote the song, "I did it my way!" must have had Al Davis in mind. (Elvis and Sinatra might have crooned it, but Al Davis lives it!) There's a rumor around that Al Davis ia actually D B Cooper the legendary highjacker that escaped with Millions and parachuted out of a jet airplane! Davis will move the Raiders wherever he gets the best deal!

Titans: They moved once from Houston and up until just a few years ago they were haivng rpoblems with fan support. For the last few years, their fans have seemed to rally around the team and they have picked up support. I really don't see them moving anytime soon.

Vikings: Great fan support, except when it comes time for a new stadium. Stadium deals have fallen through more than Brett Farve has been intercepted with the Vikes. I believe eventually the Vikes will get their new stadium somewhere in Minnesota.

Lions & Rams: Lions have a spanking new stadium, and a new deal with the city, they aren't going anywhere. Beside FORD owns them, and FORD is not going to move them away from the Motor City!

Rams: What can you say? Rosenblum and Irsay swaped teams. Irsay owned the Rams, Rosenblum owned the Colts! Irsay wanted to be on the East Coast, Rosenblum on the West Coast. Now they are both in the Mid-West!

Jags. No history and boring

Every other team has a history with the exception of Texans, but they have a pretty big following in Houston. Jags are just pathetic.

Houston is a great sports town and they loved the Oilers back in the day until about 95'

The Jags are indeed pathetic and will most likely be in a new city within 5 years...maybe less

Did you know the Jags actually have a much better record than the Panthers?

Panthers have a decent TV market and a fan base and history. Division championships and a Superbowl appearance. This team belongs to two states.

Jags? They have to compete with two other teams for attention.

I see them in LA in few years. No doubt.

    • You didn’t really address the point, just like you ignored the point about the RBs initially, and saying “they are all lotto picks” is just a really silly reduction because you could say that about literally any player rookie or vet every snap, every game, every year. It is well known that different positions have different hit rates, and I would argue different types of prospects within position groups as well, and that hit rates change the further down in the draft you go. Everybody knows QB is different and that, for example, first round OL have a really high success rate. Using your lotto ticket analogy…again…you are saying a lotto ticket with a 1 in 100 chance of hitting is the exact same thing as a lotto ticket with a 1 in 2 chance of hitting (this is an example, don’t take these odds literally). The point was he is no more of a lotto ticket than the 31yr old receiver coming off a major knee injury, and in my opinion he is better odds with a higher potential “jackpot”. Saying one player is an “lotto ticket” while another isn’t is just not sound logic. You have no idea who will break out, regress, get injured, etc. There are safer bets than others, that’s all. I don’t think Diggs is a safe bet and even if he was, weighing him over all of the Panthers WRs plus 2 1k rushers is just dumb. You can disagree if you want. The list is stupid.
    • Yeah, this is all projections of how it will turn out. Inevitability this list will look ridiculous in a full 2025 sesson hindsight, most likely. Still, I am pretty surprised that so many bristled at being thought of as having very, very lowly ranked WR and TE units. We literally have been for years. All you have to do is just have things stay the same and those are immediately bottom 5 units. It is easy to see why one would be reticent to have lofty expectations in the preseason. Gotta show it first when you are a perennial cellar dweller. That's just life at the bottom.
    • That's my biggest concern with making him the 2C.  You split up the Aho Jarvis bromance that accounted for a lot of points.  If Jarvis excels as a C, it could help the team even more though.
