Pick 5 player positions to upgrade/bolster in the offseason

Doesn't have to be in order of importance. Assuming we can get a first rounder around 9-11 for Peppers. Specify if you could who you would bring in to replace them.

DE-A plethora of options for the Panthers to replace. There's Orakpo, Michael Johnson, Terrell Suggs, etc.

DT-Rocky Bernard would be no.1 on my list. I think plugging him in at DT where Lewis was lined up, and let Lewis spell Maake or Rocky as a situational pass rusher. It'll keep Lewis fresh and Kemo fresh because those guys don't have the conditioning to be every-down rushers. Of course if you wanna take the draft avenue, BJ Raji would be the best fit in the first round.

QB-Mark Sanchez would probably be the last QB I'd take in this draft to be the future, but if not this year, definitely next year.

OG-We need some depth so Hangartner can focus on center and Bridges can focus on RT if need be, because he is especially terrible at RG. Herman Johnson out of LSU is a tank at 6'7'' 380 and would create the most massive right side in NFL history alongside the 340 lb Otah.

TE-We have no reliable over-the middle option, and no complete TE. Give me Owen Daniels or LJ Smith. It'll bolster the passing game and give our QB an extra reliable receiver.

DE:If we get rid of Peppers we will need a pass rushing DE....someone like Orakpo or Johnson comes to mind in the draft, FA provides options like Suggs and Berry.

DT:We need a dominate pass rushing tackle like Jenkins on our line again.

DB:Specifically a nickleback or dime if Lucas sticks.

SS: We need a reliable backup, god forbid Harris knock himself out of a game trying to ring someones bell. A player like Kevin Ellison from USC might be a late round option and is very sound in the run game.

LB:Backup/eventual replacement for Diggs, someone like Kaluka Maiava out of USC comes to mind. He is very instinctive and has extremely good speed. He is actually thought of as USC's most NFL ready LBer by many due to the fact that he doesn't just use natural ability to make plays but also fundamental skills and techniques.

I agree with all of this except the LB, if Dan Connor comes back healthy we should be pretty good at LB. We need some more depth on OL... we did very well avoiding injuries this year. May not be so lucky next year.

From what I have read on Conner Im not sure he could play Diggs posistion, I think he is more suited on the inside. However I may be wrong....I wouldn't mind giving him a chance at the posistion before trying to find someone else to do the job.

    • Malcom Spence is the best player remaining, hope he’s there.
    • The era that you played in, and, more importantly, who you played with actually matters. Honestly, that's why these issues will be debated forever, as it's just difficult to say that this person or that person is better when you're discussing the passage of time. As for me, after Rice, Moss and maybe Megatron and T.O., there's probably a dozen or so guys that can be argued about to the cows come home. Personally, I'm not putting Fitz, Harrison, Johnson, Evans, or especially D-Hop, Jefferson, Chase or Hill definitely in front of Smitty (and Colston ain't even in the discussion). Context and all that stuff actually matters. Things like the triple crown matter.
    • Some of those guys? Yeah honestly you can.  I would 100% take Steve Smith over Larry Fitzgerald, Harrison, even Mike Evans. He is 100% a better player than those guys in his prime. If you look at the numbers Smith is historically under targeted in comparison to his contemporaries. He was only targeted 150 times or more only once in his career. Fitzgerald for example was targeted well above that 9 different seasons. Had Smith played with Peyton, Brady, Greatest Show on Turf, or even with Warner in Arizona he would broken records. His 2008 season was ridiculous accumulating 1400 yards in 13 games on less than 80 receptions. All time he also lost a season due to injury in 04, barely played WR as a rookie. Got robbed of 1k season with Clausen. Thats easily another 1800yds minimum that should have been tacked on to his #s. The only guys I’d say for certain are better than Smith are Rice, Moss, TO, Megatron, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown.
