"NBC Sports analyst Cris Collinsworth expects Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley to become the Chiefs’ next head coach.

It’s becoming more apparent that the Chiefs are waiting until after the Super Bowl to identify their next head coach _ or why not send Herm Edwards to the Senior Bowl and let him replace assistants who are fleeing?

Collinsworth, who spent time with Haley before covering the Cardinals’ wild-card win over Atlanta for NBC and will work the Super Bowl, said Haley’s star has risen higher than anyone’s during the playoffs.

“I think he’ll be the coach in Kansas City,” Collinsworth told me Tuesday on a teleconference.

“I’m watching what’s happening with all the (new) coaches, and we’ve seen some of the defensive coaches come off the board, and the one guy nobody is talking about that has surprised me, and it’s because (the Cardinals) flew so far under the radar screen, was Haley. He’s not under the radar screen anymore.

“The biggest winner who has come out of this run by the Arizona Cardinals has been Todd Haley.”

Haley worked with new Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli with the New York Jets during 1997-99."

Collinsworth is a douche.. but..

how GREAT would it be if we bring in Herm to replace Turd...??!! Maybe that's what the "snag" was!!

Can someone please explain to me WHY we would want Herm Edwards as DC.

I was not neccesarily referring to Herm. The Panthers need a change. My hopes are up that they bring in an aggresive style coordinator to take advantage of the players we have now. Bend don't break is a ridiculous mindset or philosophy to prepare an NFL defense. This isn't 2003 when we had a pretty dominant D line and they could rely on constant pressure from them. It's time for a change!

How are "questions swirling"? Turd has said he's coming back and there has been zero, and I mean zero, indication that anyone is seriously thinking about not having him come back.

The indication is that he was due to sign yesterday. He didn't and therefore you have to ponder why not. As of now he also has not signed today either.

Whilst I fully expect him to be our DC next season, it seems a trifle odd to have a delay so late in the process, especially after he said he expects and wants to be back.

    • I read that Pittsburgh is a possibility.  I think of college QB studs who had some form of mental quirk yet tons of talent--but their issue made being a team leader difficult and it led to their demise--going back:  Jamarcus Russell, Art Schlichter, Jeff George, etc. I think people forget that the QB must not only have talent, but they must lead.
    • I wish I knew more details, but the NIL money to 20-year olds combined with easy access to gambling sites is a side effect that these kids may not have considered.  To your point,A famous 2009 Sports Illustrated article titled “How (and Why) Athletes Go Broke” estimated that 78% of retired NFL players go bankrupt or face significant financial stress within two years of leaving the league.  I am guessing that ego and $$$ and the thrill of competition (most pro athletes love competition because they are the winners) makes it a powerful temptation.  Throw in the ease of gambling on your phone which is always in your hand, and I see your point x 10.
    • Freeling got some reps at RT when they gave Moton a rest day--I sorta hope Freeling gets brought along slowly as you describe.  It would be better for him for reasons you provide.  We have a really good problem.
