Panthers starting Clausen vs Bucs

charlotte, n.c. (ap) — jimmy clausen will get another chance behind center for the carolina panthers.

Coach john fox announced after practice wednesday that the rookie from notre dame will start at quarterback on sunday at tampa bay. Clausen will replace matt moore, who needs season-ending shoulder surgery.

Fox had hedged on his qb decision after sunday's 34-3 loss to new orleans. Clausen replaced the injured moore, but had an interception returned for a touchdown and fox later benched him for fellow rookie tony pike.

Fox says clausen had a good practice.

The panthers could also be down to their fourth-string running back sunday. Deangelo williams, jonathan stewart and tyrell sutton all missed practice wednesday with injuries.

I love how folks are ready to give up on a rookie QB after 3 starts on a bad football team...

People keep saying that but there is a lot more to it than that. If you'd just be real for a minute you'd see it as well.

It's even more amazing that so many people are so high on a rookie after 3 starts of nothing.

I'm not high on him, but it's way too early to give up on him...

Fair enough.

I can see the logic of the people that have though. I was never a fan to begin with so saying I have given up is false. The people that have given up base it on things they have seen. The people that are high on him base it on what they HOPE he can be.

Now ask yourself who is crazy.

At this point, it's clear that he needs allot of work (and more talent around him) to be a successful NFL QB... he's more of a development prospect than most people thought.

The expectation was that he would be able to step right in and run this offense, which clearly isn't the case, but that doesn't mean he can't do it given enough time, coaching and surrounding talent.

Bottom line, I think it's too early to totally give up on him.

I agree but that could be said about most QBs. The good thing about Clausen was that he was supposed to already be able to do this. Now that he needs a lot of work he is no more special than anyone else that came out. He has average height, average arm strength, average everything really. His motion is bad and his release point is too low, two things that can't normally be changed. That "high ceiling" he was supposed to have doesn't seem so high anymore. Now nothing stands out about him so why waste time on him when other guys might have more potential?

You get what I'm saying? I'm not saying I agree but now that there is nothing special about this kid why waste the time when other guys might be more physically gifted?

It's not like we have a better prepared option. Armanti doesn't know the playbook yet, and Pike is so far behind it's like he's in his first pre-season game. Me thinks I'll definitely pick up the Bucs D in FF. 2 INTs, 1 FF, 6 sacks. That's my guess.

Armanti has had the same amount of time w/ the playbook as Jimmy.

But yeah, I agree and have already picked up that Tampa D in my $ league.

What if he actually does well? Are you gonna eat your crow or say it was luck?

Why would I need to eat my crow? I will continue to give an honest analysis of his game. I have never said I expect him to throw 3 INT and blah blah blah. I have said I don't believe the hype and I'm not a fan of his. Am I not allowed to have my opinion?

Please define "Well"

Moore threw for 300+, 2 TDs and 1 Bad INT but the haters didn't eat crow, they hated on the one pick.

Clausen threw for 155 yards, <50%, and 1 gifted TD and people said it was great.

If he does well great, I'll be here with my honest recap.
