Have heard from many people about an article on yahoo sports that said that Ron Meeks is the lead choice to be the Panthers head coach next year. unfortunately i can't find the article has anyone seen or heard anything else about this? A link would be awesome! I just hope the story is false, I really like meeks as a DC but not as a head coach unless it would be on a interim basis!

I did find this....

http://www.examiner.com/sports-in-dallas/head-coach-candidates-for-the-dallas-cowboys-part-1-ron-meeks

Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ron Meeks is more than qualified to coach the Dallas Cowboys. His resume speaks for itself. His defensive units helped one team win a Super Bowl and another make its first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history.

What may prevent Meeks from coming to Dallas

Meeks runs a 4-3 defense and would probably want to bring his system to Dallas. The Cowboys have spent tons of money implementing the 3-4 over the last few years and may not want to gut the progress. Jerry Jones has not commented on the possibility of personnel turnover with the hiring of a new coach. Another problem may be the potential lock-out in 2011. It wouldn’t make much sense for Jerry to hire a new head coach to sit around for an entire year. If the Cowboys or Meeks decide to make it work, we could see the next Sean Payton here in Dallas. If that is the case, then this relationship could be a match made in heaven.

Dont buy it at all.... if this were true then you fire Fox after last weeks game and let Meeks work with this team the rest of the season.

Good point! You go ahead and make the change now, since you are already paying Meeks, at least then you can see if he is your guy.

    • I'd hold on to Walker - we have no OT depth at all. Freeling is a block of clay - all the tools are there and he appears to have a great attitude. He needs serious work on his technique to realise his potential though.
    • From my watch last night: They weren't trading out of 19 unless it was a daft offer once Freeling got there. They were clearly antsy to get Hunter - and Minnesota actually called to offer the trade down. They weren't trading out of the third round pick once Brazzell fell to it (and Canales would have been happy with him in the second round). They traded back a lot on Day 3 - even if Morgan 'Babe Ruth'd' it with Lee, Hecht and Wheatley; they clearly weren't the only guys they would have taken at those picks. I'm curious to know which player caused the reaction at the start of day 2 (Dan Morgan): "of course they'd pick him"
    • Watching this confirms that this staff and front office is super high on Monroe Freeling. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gotta a real chance to win the starting LT job in camp. If he does, we can look to flip Rasheed Walker to a contender desperate for tackle help.   As for Ickey I still really like him and wanna extend him but based on how the staff was talking about Freeling it might be time for ickey to start taking some practice sets at guard if he wants to stay here as we are gonna have to have figure out a solution for the contracts of Lewis and Hunt.  My preferred scenario for the Oline in 2027 is Freeling-Ickey-Hech-Lewis-Moton.
