CatMan's 11/11 practice observations

Stopped by practice again today, here are a few things I saw:

- James Anderson was lining up at WLB, Beason at MLB, couldn't see who was lined up at SLB but it was not Senn.

- Saw Richard Marshall standing on the sideline while the 1st team defense was on the field.

- Pike worked with the first team offensive line and FB/HB's against the 1st team defensive line and LB's while Clausen worked with the WR's against the DB's in 1 on 1 drills. Saw Jimmy complete several nice passes and totally miss a few. Didn't see him throw any picks (although one was close).

- Armanti was taking snaps with the scout team. Saw him attempt a deep pass that was underthrown and picked off.

- Neither DeAngelo or Jonathan Stewart were at practice today.

- Devin Thomas was watching from the sideline as the 1st team offense worked. Saw Clowney involved in several plays with the 1st team offense.

- They were using a noise machine when the 1st team offense was on the field.

- Seemed to me like they had Clausen taking allot of snaps out of the shotgun. Makes sense if they're looking for a way to solve his center exchange problems and give him more time to make reads.

- Saw Goodson take at least one snap in the wildcat formation.

Maybe Norwood, good observations though!

I hope Norwood is put in at SLB.

Why is Devin Thomas not getting an opportunity? Is he still injuried?

Please tell me AE was working at WR for the most part...

AE was working at WR for the most part and he was also still working on returns (as he has been all year).

This must be incorrect, GoApps told me repeatedly that Armanti had a "laser" arm and would never do such a thing. Could you tell if he was throwing it to himself? He has the arm and the quickness to do it so I was just wondering.

    • I don't think working from memory is going to be very productive or useful. You would need to compare them all, which is far easier to do from the breakdowns of each game. That has tiered charts that give real data.  But, even then that wouldn't substitute for a trained eye(s) doing detailed film analysis to attempt to determine if we are modifying the offense dramatically for Bryce.
    • I think front office and general team culture under new ownership is sort of on the right track. The rookies all look incredible compared to where you'd expect each one of them to be right now. Lee's in game coaching is awful, he might be ok as a culture and developmental guy but that can't outweigh the in-game miscues and bad game plans. If LaMelo can't figure out the ankles then I think you gotta trade him for a haul, can't keep having your seasons lost every year because he can't stay on the court. And I say that as a big fan of him. Miller I think is unlucky, he looks likely to be an elite core player for us, but if he can't put together a stretch of healthy seasons he would trend towards LaMelo and need to be moved. I used to like Miles on the court a lot more but nowadays he's just an empty stat guy who needs to go. The short lived hot start to the season was fun but unless LaMelo and Miller both get and stay healthy within the next few weeks I can't even see us being a play-in team this year. And even if they do get healthy, we're probably looking at play-in at best, maybe barely compete for that fringe 6th seed.
