Fun question about Trgovac

maybe yes, maybe no.

either way i'll be happier.

he wasn't able to make it happen here. it was a waste for him to be here, a waste of both our time and his (if he is successful somewhere else).

for whatever reason he wasn't successful here and we will be better off without him.

I don't know how you can say Trgovac wasn't successful. He fielded top ten defenses for most of his tenure here. It can definitely be worse...just ask the Lions and Chiefs fans.

the defense underachieved with him. it was good at first but every year saw a steady decline. he was successful at one point but i wouldn't consider especially this past year a success.

his tenure will be marred by the way it ended....the first 10 games of the year carolina was holding teams to about 290 yards and 15 points per game. then they went to atlanta and they went to giving up just under 395 yards and 29 points per game....most of those yards and points were given up in a half, usually in the 2nd half where they blew huge leads. against zona they figured there wasn't any sense in waiting for a big lead to blow and just decided to give it away in the first half.

it has been gradually building to this point.

if that is success i don't want any part of it.

It could easily happen. Seems the same notion was taken when Henning left. Could we do better. While we ended with a miraculous thud, if you look at how we ranked this year I think that we improved. I don't have any ideas that we're going to have the greatest defense in the league next year, but if you aren't getting better you're getting worse. Even if you get worse trying to get better, you have to keep trying. Trg had great overall ranks and stats. I'm still think that Fox was the man behind the curtain all along. If Trg DOES do well then I think that'll prove it, because he certainly hasn't been very dynamic during his tenure here.

plus it is pretty sad if you are judging your success based on how much better you are than the bottom of the barrel. I am tired of mediocrity. judge your performance based on what the best in the league is doing. or how about just doing your best every year, every game?

Depends on where Trgo lands and the players he has to work with...

Depends on who we hire as DC...

Depends on how our defensive roster looks next season...

My gut instinct that Trgo will field defenses that might look better statistically but the fans having to deal with Trgo will complain about the same things we've complained around here.

Since when is being in the top ten mediocre or anywhere close to being bottom of the barrel?

Of course, there is room for the Panthers defense to improve, but let's not get carried away here. Maybe it's time for Trgovac to go, but that doesn't mean he can't, or never could coach. Our defense is not more talented than everybody else, and the players admitted to making quite a few mental mistakes this year.

    • Very True--and I am a former HS English teacher.
    • Not a Moore fan-but he had a few good games last year-but I want players that scare you--Renfrow's route running and intelligence, Legette's size, speed, and strength, AT's intelligence and route running, Coker's body control, strong hands, and abilty to win contested catches, and TMac's size, body control, and ability to find soft spots in zone coverages.  Horn gives them the ability to stretch the field and he plays special teams.   Moore has a nice smile and can dance.  He filled in well last season, but to get better as a team, you have to upgrade your players.  I think Moore is a bottom of the roster guy who got bumped when we drafted 2 WRs and signed a legit free agent.  Here is the thing--TMac makes us better because he is great against the zone--man?  Good luck with that.  AT's role can be reduced, and that is probably a good thing.  He can specialize in situational football. Coker?  Just getting started. XL?  Just getting started.  Drafting TMac was probably a bit of a wake up call, but XL will be better as the 2. Renfrow?  I see him splitting reps with AT--keeping both fresh and giving different looks. Horn?  Watch the safety cheat his side when he is in the game--I see a young Steve Smith type in him, but he has yet to play a game.  I hear that Morgan loves him.
