Woest schools to draft from for the Panthers

I would have to say in our history, 3 schools really stand out to me that we can't seem to scout good players from:

1. USC - aside from Kalil I can't remember anybody worth mentioning off the top of my head

2. Penn St. - can we not draft players that can stay healthy from here?

3 - Flordia St. - Weinke wasn't as bad of a pick as Brown but damn, what are our scouts thinking?

What do you guys think are some of the worst schools we seem to draft from?

I hope the majority of our fanbase doesn't think Chris fuging Weinke was a better pick then Brown.

As for SC, the only reason they are on this list is because we drafted two WRs from USC when we didn't have a coaching staff capable of developing WRs. It's amazing how other USC WRs can make an impact in the NFL yet the two we drafted look lost. I think that says more about our WR development in the past then anything.....

school defines the player's work ethic and ability?

More then that goes into success in the NFL though. There are certainly numerous examples of players that did absolutely nothing under one coaching staff and a change of scenery made all the difference. Just look at Mike Williams. Yes he's certainly putting in more time in Seattle but the guy hardly sniffed the field with Detroit. Certainly it's not absurd to think that Detroit had poor coaches and was failing at developing players and the coaching staff in Seattle puts BMW in better position to make plays. Kinda how our offense lacks the creativity to find ways to get Smitty the ball.....

Players not to draft, historically...

- Florida Quarterbacks

- Michigan Runningbacks

- Penn State Runningbacks

- USC Wide Receivers

There are exceptions, but generally those school/player combos are best avoided.

I've wondered sometimes if Florida State defensive end should join that list (unless you're moving them to outside linebacker).

You can cross off MIchigan and Penn State and just put Big 10 running backs.

    • I'm looking at the schedule and I see a 10+win season easy.  I think Carolina goes undefeated in the division.  I also believe that the Bears, Bengals, Lions, Browns, Steelers are very winnable.  Revenge game with phillips and the eagles could be a win.  Honestly only 2 games I see as chalking up a L to off the bat is the Seahawks and Broncos.
    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
