CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina quarterback Jimmy Clausen has been cleared to play following a concussion and will seek his first win as an NFL starter Sunday against ex-Panthers QB Jake Delhomme and Cleveland.

Clausen practiced for a third straight day Friday after missing last Sunday's loss to Baltimore and coach John Fox says doctors have signed off on his return. Clausen, who was injured on the final offensive play Nov. 14 at Tampa Bay, was listed as probable.

"I think he had an outstanding week of preparation," Fox said. "From my understanding is he had no side effects and we anticipate he'll be good to go on Sunday."

The rookie will be matched against Delhomme, Carolina's former QB who will start for the injured Colt McCoy and provide another odd twist in the Panthers' miserable season.

Carolina (1-9) released Delhomme in March following an 18-interception season in 2009.

"Obviously, Jake was down here in Carolina for a long time and did great things down here," Clausen said. "He's one of the quarterbacks I like to watch and get bits and pieces that they do to try to help my game. It'll be good to finally meet him for the first time."

Even though Clausen is 0-4 as a starter, has completed just 48.6 percent of his passes and has one touchdown pass and four interceptions, the Panthers desperately needed him to return. There is nothing but uncertainty behind him with Matt Moore lost to a season-ending shoulder injury.

Brian St. Pierre, who started Sunday's 37-13 loss to the Ravens 10 days after being signed off the street, has a sore throwing shoulder. He's listed as probable after being limited in practice this week, but hinted earlier in the week he wouldn't be able to play.

Rookie Tony Pike is probable after being limited all week, also with a sore throwing arm. Behind him is Keith Null, who was signed to the practice squad on Tuesday. Fox said the backup would be a "game-time decision" and didn't rule out promoting Null to the 53-man roster.

"It's comforting to have a guy that can start the game," Fox said. "I'm not sure about our depth situation going into this game. We'll sort that out as we move forward."

Fox said he would split carries in the backfield with Mike Goodson and Jonathan Stewart, who is probable after practicing Friday. Goodson had two 100-yard rushing games filling in for Stewart the last two weeks.

Left guard Travelle Wharton (toe), safeties Jordan Pugh (hamstring) and Marcus Hudson (ankle) and running back Tyrell Sutton (ankle) are doubtful and have not practiced all week.

Cornerback Captain Munnerlyn (shoulder) and receiver Brandon LaFell (concussion) practiced Friday and are probable.

Hope he is ready to go.

I hope Clausen isnt serious about watching delhome to get bits and pieces to help his game

in every profession any vets will have something to teach you. Even the sucky ones can at least tell you what NOT to do.

Seeing as how Jake was a great leader and motivator in dire times he has a lot to teach.

He's also one of the few people that Steve Smith respected.

Good. Anxious to see Clausen play again.

Delhomme. I'd like to see him back on the team in some role (Not starting or second string qb).

Would love us to bring him in for one last season and have him retire a Panther. But Sunday I wouldn't mind seeing him clutch his face mask in frustration after throwing his third pick of the game.

These next few weeks will determine Clausen's future with us but I think that some time somewhere will give him a chance.

    • I have more faith in XL improving than I do in Tmac being a true number 1 recuever
    • Round 1. TMac arguably the best WR in the draft Round 2. Scour ton mentioned as a possible 1st round edge.     Texas A&M did not use him the same way Purdue did. After the 2023 season he was listed as a first round grade. I believe had Texas A&M used him like they did at Purdue he never makes it out of round 1. Round 3 Princely Umanmielen, we'll go by Princely.  Another highly graded player we got in a lower round. As the video suggests, even if he plays only on passing down it's a positive. Give him a couple of years to develop a he could be a three down player.  Round 4a Etienne IMO a huge upgrade over Blackshear. I can see him in a similar role as CMC without the heavy workload. He can run in between the tackles and has some shifty moves. Give Canales some flexibility. A fellow huddler pointed out UGA running backs don't see the field if they cannot pick up the blitz. Really good pick. Round 4b Ransom a hard hitting safety that has played three different positions on defense. Great pick Round 5a Cam Jackson a massive NT in round 5. I believe a solid rotational pick in a lower round. We added a beast that could make offenses quiver when he's lined up with Brown. Great Value  Round 5b Evans This is another player that can block and has good hands. He also had better seasons before 2024. As a rookie he's probably leaps and bounds better than Ian Thomas. I think he gives us a three headed monster at TE.  Round 6 Horn Jr. Many believe he's just going to be a KR/PR player. I believe there are going to be packages for him to get on the field as a WR. His speed with TMac and Thielen in the slot could be special. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in training camp. I've watched some film and he is very explosive.  Overall I love our picks. I honestly believe all of them will contribute this season. I don't believe we reached on one player in this draft.  This weekend we get a small look at these rookies
