Andrew Luck News & Updates

I could live with this scenario. If Clausen improves and AJ Green proves to be a NFL capable QB, then we'll have the envious scenario San Diego had years ago with Rivers AND Brees. Then we'll have some serious leverage.

Meanwhile we have a veteran that can get us more wins than the rookies could under the same circumstances.

...

AJ Green is a receiver.

this isn't about who we want starting, it's about a mentor for the young guy. Someone on the sideline that can help him out when times are rough. McNabb may be that player but honestly I suspect he will still want to start.

so really, it's like this:

Luck & Mcnabb & Clausen/Whoever or

Alex Smith & Clausen & Whoever

Don't misunderstand me, I don't think Smith is a long term solution. I want Luck. But the only thing McNabb has over Smith at this point in his career is his experience. But that may be cancelled out by feeling disrespected again if and when Luck outplays him.

I don't want McNabb. He's on the decline. If Luck doesn't come out this year, I like the Kolb suggestion. I know he won't be a Free Agent, but he's young and still has some upside. Or possibly even a look at Matt Flynn (Green Bay). He looked pretty impressive in his first start @NE of all places.

I don't think Smith would be a good mentor personally, just because I think he will be looking for a fresh start. McNabb has disadvantages too but he is the most seasoned veteran.

He wasn't benched because Orton outplayed him btw.

I'm not an opponent of Luck, or a proponent, nor dor our opinions mattter anyway, but...

for the sake of argument here's what I would do;

1- Trade away first pick for as much as you can get

2- Trade/sign Sage Rosenfels to be our vet QB/stop gap starter

3- Draft Greg McElroy in the 3rd or 4th (with extra acquired picks) and let him ride the pine with pickles next year.

4- Use extra picks on Oline, Dline, and CB

seriously, get off the Alex Smith thing. nothing you can say will make him any better. Dude sucks.

You act like I'm in love with the kid. All I'm saying is he doesn't suck just because you're typing words on a message board. You've asked me if I've watched him. Have YOU? Or have you just gone along with the media and looked at stats here and there?

Just agree to disagree and move on.

Sexy Rexy, but I know what you're talking about. But it's not as if McNabb was lighting the world on fire in Washington anyway. You make a good point about Smith as well.

Either way, I think it's painfully obvious that there aren't too many viable options out there if Luck doesn't come out. It's either a reach or look at some other team's rejects.

I like stock piling picks. but if we trade for a QB, I hope we can do better than Sage, all I can think about when I hear his name is the helicopter fumble

    • This play was never designed to go to either DJ or Odunze. The primary read is Burden who is stymied early, with the outlet being Kmet if Caleb doesn't like the option for Burden. Given the situation it's pretty obvious the simple play is to take the free yards with Kmet, or if you want to be aggressive just wait a beat longer for Burden to uncover on his double move. If Moore was ever going to be a viable target in this play then Caleb should have started out reading Odunze to hold the safety in the middle and then coming to Moore, but because he started the snap staring down the right and then came back to the middle late it made it where the safety's leverage remained to the outside of Moore, so he would never have imagined that pass actually being thrown to him in that situation. Realistically DJ's best option in that context is to just occupy the safety to leave a hole open for Caleb to get it to Burden, which is probably why he throttles down vs carrying the safety across.
    • Even with Sonny Styles still on the board I thought it's a no brainer to address the Oline after Icky's injury.  And how can you pass up Fano at 19 given our situation. Then the rest of the draft just kind of made sense with maybe the exception of Klubnik.  But if Canales can fix him and Young goes down. . .I think it's a solid pick. What do you think of this draft?
    • When we didn't trade him to the Rams or the Bears (I believe the Bears said they would take one of Brown/ Burns/DJ Moore) we should have just signed him and kept him.  We should have traded him to the Rams obviously and we should have kept DJ and traded Burns.  We made all three wrong choices with Burns lol.
