who gives a crap,we didnt win anything with him.yes he was and is still a good receiver, but he has attitude problems and to move forward in this organization you can't have veteran players acting like assholes every time a rookie makes a mistake. trust me you have all seen it, he has made is share of mistakes over the years too. throw in a whole new coaching staff next season with probably another rookie qb, new plays and terminology and basically steve smith will be just like a 35 year old rookie.if he wants to leave then leave. all i know is at the end of the day players come and go. somebody wore #89 before steve smith (rae carruth) and somebody will wear #89 after him. the logo will always remain, real fans will always remain.

:willy_nilly: goodness. He is playing like an a**hole?? I am not sure what games you are watching but Smith still seams to be playing is heart out, I still see him blocking on run and pass plays not thrown his way, and he has pretty much kept his mouth shut despite the fact this team has had ZERO QB play and a horrible offense for almost two season's now. In addition this whole "he wants to leave" is still pure speculation.

If he leaves he is abandoning the fans and team that made him what he is, an awesome ballplayer. We stood by and supported him during his shortcomings, retire a Panther Smity.

I don't really disagree, but I can't fault the guy for wanting to win now - his window is closing. It's fairly clear that Carolina is at least year or two away from being back to truly competitive (although I do believe there is a LOT of talent on this team) and I'm sure that Steve wants a ring. I would miss seeing him in a Panthers uni, but it's not like he'd be LeBron-ing the Panthers.

I mean really I cant blame the guy. We are having a bad year. I mean every other team in the league never has a bad year so Yea he should want to be traded. We are going to suck forever now so whats the use of having Smith. Dear GOd whY Do wE SuK sooo MuCh........

Yeah lets just get rid of anybody who shows any emotion or acts like they give a damn that they are losing. Everybody on that team is an adult and they need to take responsibility for what they are doing. Jimmy is sucking and needs to know it. Dont baby an adult. If he needs a bottle on the field then hes the one that should go. Sure smith has done some stupid things but not nearly as bad as Vick and theres lots of retards on here that want him here. He tortured dogs and drowned them and all that other crap. cmon now dude. so smitty punched somebody. big deal. its a physical emotional game. We need more people like him. Not just a bunch of robots who go through the motions.

Yea New England gets rid of guys with this talent every season, I mean its not like anybody is going to know who he was in 15-20 years... The honorable thing to do is retire a Panther but go for it Smitty, whatever.

    • Would Morgan or Beason have been HOFers' if injuries hadn't derailed their careers?  I was not a close watcher of the game when Morgan was in his prime but I thought Beason had a few seasons at close to Lukes' level of play.
    • Franchise QBs feast when things are rolling and the tide that raises boats when things are going sideways.  Bryce isn't that. He's a complimentary player, that's it.  When the defense and STs are on point, he plays loose and it shows.  When we are in a dog fight and things haven't gone our way, he struggles.  It's that simple. He's not a horrible QB, but he's not top tier either.  So the question begs, is this worthy of a second contract?  The answer should be no.  It definitely is my answer. Bryce will never be a QB that can produce wins largely on his arm.  That's a FRANCHISE QB, any other QB is simply a placeholder at the starter's position until that guy can be found.   At some point the excuses of lack of weapons will be a straw man.  Heck, it's nearly there now.  I mean if he doesn't look even better than last year will we blame it on the TE position?  'Well if Bryce only had a player like Kelce, Kittle or Gronk on this team...'  Are we really going to do that?
    • When I arrived at college, I was 18, not too much younger than some of these draft picks.  It was not a huge school, but there were guys on the team who were 21, 22, 23....playing ahead of me.  I was seventh on the depth chart.  Those guys have been through a few seasons, were stronger, more knowledgeable.  I was a better raw player than some of them, but those other factors matter.  As I grew stronger, more familiar with the playbook, and learned what it was like to play in college, I gradually improved and with that, I rose up the depth chart.  It took most of my freshman year for the light to come on.  Had the coach thrown me into the starting lineup day 1, I would have probably failed.    And that was college.  So I agree with you based on my experience on a much lower level.  Frankly, I think that is why so many kids drafted to fill huge gaps bust.  The teams are desperate.  Anyone who looks to fill vacancies in the starting lineup through the draft is desperate.  You draft depth to develop.  For this reason, I say, "Let Walker start for a while."  Maybe Brazzell can be our WR 4.  Throw Hunter into a rotation and ask him to do one or two things.  Freeling needs some strength and he needs to work on run blocking.
