Edwards pick may be a great one now.

No way he leaves with that major extension he got. Not even the redskins are going to eat all that money.

Edwards has the talent to be great if we have a spot on the roster. Without Smith there will be a spot. Its pure speculation that Smith is gone though.

actually the way they designed the contract, they can cut him at the end of the season and owe him virtually nothing(besides the money he got paid for this season.)

with that said; McNabb is old, inaccurate, and as said before he doesn't fit our offense. if we somehow don't manage to get Andrew Luck then sure, give him a chance. at the very least he can come in and help Clausen. I'm completely against the idea of giving McNabb a big contract, though.

Dwayne Harris from ECU, very similar to Smith when he came into the NFL. He will be there late in the draft and should be drafted to fill SS's spot. This guy was amazing to watch playing for ECU and made an average QB look great.

Agreed on Dwayne Harris being an extraordinary athlete. Being an ECU homer, however, I don't trust my own opinion of guys from ECU. I would love to see him in Carolina though.

Guy is on my radar too. I just wonder after last year if we even draft a WR. I guess if Smitty leaves its a option.

I would have rather had a wide receiver from the third round last year and another receiver with the first pick of the second round this year to determine who we play rather than just Edwards. Unless he turns into the next Smitty or close to it, which is unlikely, you can never justify this pick. Stop trying people.

I even doubt the Edwards pick will ever be a decent one.

It is not like we haven't seen the old bust of a receiver in the second round (what it will end up being) routine before. I guess the hope is that instead of Jarrett, Edwards actually ends up improving over time. Maybe a new staff can do what the old one couldn't. Develop receivers and design plays to maximize their effectiveness. They go hand in hand. Maybe next year he gets some playing time and at least we can see if he sucks or not.

People need to realize that even if AE turns into Jerry fuging Rice, he was a bad pick because of the draft value given up for him. He was a projected 5th round draft pick that the Panthers, knowing that they would suck majorly this year and therefor have a high draft pick, traded a 2nd round pick for.

I can only assume this was done as some sort of cute ploy to attract the Appalachia inbreds to come to the games. It failed!

And yes, while it take some players several years for the lights to come on (not usually 2nd round picks though), you can usually see glimpses of hope in those players during their rookie years. I have seen nothing from AE to make me think he is going to turn out to be anything more than a serviceable receiver in the slot.
