Which RB goes next year.

That's retarded. D-Lo can be a good running back for another 3-4 seasons. Stewart another 4-5. You want Goodson to just sit around and be a simplistic kickoff returner for all or part of that? Who every now and then fills in? Talk about a waste of a talent. And I'm sure he'd just LOVE that pathetic role.

We as Panther fans need to take a step back from time to time and stop looking at this team with so much love and look at them for what they are. No team in the NFL has three stud RBs because no team needs three stud RBs. Most teams have one stud, and one capable guy that can take the load off from time to time. More than a few teams share the load, but with one getting way more carries. A few teams do have three (Cowboys, Saints come to mind) but also use a passing attack and don't count on those three RBs.

We need to understand that this league has changed. We can't win with smashmouth football and a run game here. We have to understand that the players are human beings, not some pawns we can just toss around like an armchair GM. DeAngelo and Stewart are both #1s. Some can argue Goodson can start in this league. It's a waste of their talents, and a waste of our payroll to keep all three here. In a fantasy world, it looks sweet I know. But we have to be real here. Trading one will only help us get an extra draft pick (which we need right now) and free up cap space to make this team better.

As for injuries, it happens on every team every season. Some of you act like it'd be the end of the world if our RB squad took a hit. Guess what? The old Panthers would take that hit. Where this team needs to go in the future to compete YEARLY? We'll manage the hit. If we don't it's mediocre city for the next decade until we get our heads out of our asses and learn how to build a proper team.

FOUR winning seasons in 16 years, folks. FOUR. We're doing it WRONG.

whats retarded (at the very least short sighted) is not realizing how much they all are going to be needed next year because of us having a new/inexperienced QB back there.

we are going to have to run the ball well over 600 times next year...probably closer to 630 thanks to the 18 game season. that is a lot of punishing that the RBs will have to endure. we have enough problem keeping 2 healthy at one time with what little we've been able to run this year.

also, with 600-630 carries, there is going to be plenty of opportunities for all of them. goodson is supposed to be primarily a receiving back anyway so he could be used much as kevin faulk was in NE. there will be plenty of touches for 4 or 4 backs and this team would be getting their money worth.

Smart money would let Dwill leave. He is not going to make it much longer in the league.

You can't be serious? I don't get why everyone thinks RBs are so fragile all of a sudden. D'lo has split carries his entire career, is 27, and has under 900 career carries. He has plenty of years left.

he splits carries and he's missed 16 games under his rookie contract. if it were anyone else, the deangelonians would call them injury prone.

the only way wiliams has anything left in the tank 3-4 seasons from now is if he plays a backup role from here on out.

To much emotions, and to lil common sense in this thread.

First of all, if williams walks, that is alright, as we got great value out of his draft slot, and contract. If we don't extend him, he deserves to go on, and I won't be upset with the front office for that. Cause there isn't a way the panthers can sign him, and deal him. I doubt they use the tag, if they are going to spend the money, they'll sign him long term.

They won't trade stewart cause he is the back that can carry the load, and compliments the other two better than the other two could compliment each other.

Why get rid of goodson? He is cheap, an a great offensive weapon.

That leaves Sutton. Ya won't get a lot of value out of him, except maybe in a player for player trade, to a team desperate for a running back.

IMO.

I voted JStew! DWill upside is to high!

D. Will has to much upside? Lol

His upside is very likely behind him. Ya don't spend 5 years in the league at running back, and still have a lot of untapped potential.

D.Will has had more injuries, and has missed more time due to injury than J.Stew, and people call J.Stew injury prone! Lol

D.Will also has more miles/yardage/hits on him. So many fans forget he came out of college with more yards than any other.

D.Will can still be a good back in a shared load system, but that also drops his value as a running back.

Oh this is brilliant! Everyone is on Luck's bandwagon and wants to start letting RB's walk? My god, he already will have virtually rookie WR's to deal with! He needs all the help he can get in the form of a running game! Manning and Brees just need adequate running backs to open up the passing game! Our rookie QB's need ALL the weapons they can get to open up the passing game in relation to their experience! If we draft Luck, then for his confidence and health, our RB's will be more important this year than EVER.

williams made just over $2 million this season. stewart, goodson, and sutton combined make roughly $2.5 million.

how much more do you pay williams to keep him around?

it's not like it's d-will's fault it took our o-line 10 weeks to gel. you can't tell me he's not worth the money. he would have got his numbers. i'm almost convinced they put him and other players on ir to save them for next year. i might be wrong though.

i mean't to quote not pie.

the dude is a stewart fan so he must say that williams is bad and not worth keeping so stewart can get more attention. kind of like that whole twilight thing. he's on team stewart. he doesn't quite get that they are on the same team and actually like being teammates and are friends.

unfortunately i think a lot of this will be affected by the eventual CBA agreement. If the season goes to 18 games, D will will get a fat contract. Teams will have 2 talented RB's and a stable of role players to rely on in case of injuries. the 18 game season would also raise the salary cap to make room for this move probably.

but i think you need to keep playmakers plain and simple. Goodson has shown he has great value all over the field. He earns his roster spot, playing special teams, 3rd down RB, and slot receiver.

If Goodson was used in a more flexible manner (think sproles in SD), and on the field the same time as D Will or Stew, then you can justify keeping all three. Throw Sutton in as an emergency plan (FB and RB) and you have a stellar group to rely on all season.

But like i said, every team needs playmakers, the panthers need everyone they can find. Hopefully the new HC and or OC can take advantage of this abundance of talent and skill.
