...if the player of your dreams (Luck, Newton, Mallett, whomever) has a bad bowl game?

They shouldn't :nonod:

Plenty of college guys - at all positions - don't finish their career on high notes. Likewise, plenty of pro guys have games where they look completely incompetent.

It happens, but you judge on the body of work, not a single game.

By the end of his college career, Peyton Manning was still "the guy who couldn't beat Florida" and there were people who believed he'd never succeed because of it. More than one pundit proclaimed Ryan Leaf as the better pro choice (Leaf also finished his college career in a loss, but had a decent outing) because they said Peyton would always choke in big games.

Think anyone still sees things that way? :sosp:

You've heard me complain plenty about people going nuts over guys who have one good game. It's just as silly to go sour on a guy just for one bad one.

Until it becomes a trend, you shouldn't worry.

So for those getting prepared to watch the bowl games, by all means do so, and enjoy them.

But if your favorite guy doesn't light it up, don't go nuts.

(I'd say don't go nuts if he does either, but that's a whole other discussion and I'm done for the night)

Lol... That's held true for Peyton for a while. I'd say with the exception of the 2008 (I think that's when their Super Bowl win was?) season that Peyton for the most part has choked in big games.

I remember the college QB who had a great career, then had an amazingly bad Sugar Bowl. Really messed up his Psyche. Didn't really get his head straight until he was called in as a replacement during a work stoppage. Name was Falco I think.

^ ^ Keanu Reeves as a Qb, that was a laugh

Matt Moore's new nickname

(though seriously, is there anyone here that would take Clausen over Moore as backup next year?)

Mr. Scot now I know why Catdaddy was accusing you of stealing your posts!!!!!! I said something like this a few times in the past and got flamed because everyone said I was just a Luck homer and knew he would do bad and was preparing for that. You might have said it more eloquently so damn you for that! ;)

I'd like to echo Bruce and say with Luck it's never really been about the numbers but more so the tools he brings with him to the league, that's what people should look for.

And no HSC, no rational person would take Clausen over Moore as a backup.

    • I came over from the old Panthers Insider site. When Fox Sports bought that platform it slowly just started dying plus the guy who ran that site was dealing with some pretty significant health issues so the whole thing just slowly fell apart. Quite a few of us migrated over here. Not sure how many are still around.  I miss that place. It struck a nice balance of having enough active posters to keep productive conversation flowing but didn't have so much traffic that you end up with a lot of trolling BS. This place is getting there though since we shutdown new registrations but at some point we're going to have to open it back up or we'll watch this place slowly die off too as posters fall off for one reason or another. We just have to figure out a way to filter out the spam bots. It was a never ending battle to ban the spam bots to keep then from overrunning the site. You'd think they'd be a little more strategic. I mean, if you fill a site with nothing but spam people are just going to stop coming so it's not a sustainable model. But nope, every one of them makes dozens of duplicate threads filling up pages upon pages as soon as their account goes live.
    • lol...I don't remember that.  Although recalling what I had for breakfast yesterday is sometimes a challenge.  Hope it was a positive thing.
