So that's our solution for the future?

Russ Grimm

A guy who's found no success as a coach outside of Steelerville?

Let me break it down for you, and without the use of googling "do not want" to upload and post it here.

Russ Grimm, in a nutshell, kinda sucks.

He's horridly overrated for what he actually produces in this league.

For starters lets look at the ever potent running game the Cardinals have had since Grimm has joined as an offensive line coach and then was promoted to the ridiculous title job "running game coordinator":

2010: Currently ranked 31st with 87.3 yards/game; 4.4 yard avg

2009: 28th with 93.4 yards/game 4.1 yard avg

2008: 32nd with 73.6 yards/game 3.5 yard avg

2007: 29th with 90 yards/game 3.6 yard avg

And the passing game has been commended for their pass protection but they still had the guy with one of the quickest releases in the NFL in the last ten years. Not like that helps the line out at all lol

2010: 44 sacks allowed

2009: With Warner (15 games): 24 sacks; Without (1 game): 2 sacks

2008: Warner started all games: 26 sacks

2007: With Warner (14 games); 20 without: 4

These stat's not good enough? What does football outsiders think?

Offensive line rankings: Run-blocking/Pass Pro

2010: 23rd/28th *adjusted sack rate up to 8.2% from 5.2% in 2009

2009: 16th/7th

2008: 30th/8th

2007: 9th/9th

Since he is the running game coordinator, I had to peruse FO's RB rankings, the highest a Cards running back is ranked this year according to DYAR/DVOA is 26th/21st (Tim Hightower). Beanie Wells, their recent first round pick at RB, is ranked much lower 38th/41st. In 2009 Hightower was ranked 38th/39th, and Wells was a little higher at 33rd/28th.

So now lets move on to how many Head Coaching opportunities Grimm has lost to better qualified candidates. This has been ongoing since at least 2004, when during his Bears interview he couldn't pronounce McCaskey. He would lose the Bears HC vacancy to Lovie Smith.

in 2007 while looking for a replacement for Cowher the Steelers opted instead to hire Mike Tomlin, a first year tampa 2 defensive coordinator for the Vikings, rather than promote the in-house option they had (Grimm). That's part of the reason why he went to Arizona with Whisenhunt. Such a bold move by the Steelers to choose a guy that coached a 4-3 defense instead of hiring from within their own system.

in 2009 he interviewed with the Jets, whom ultimately picked Rex Ryan over him.

and just this past year he passed over an interview opportunity from the Bills. I personally wish he hadn't turned him down and they hired him because then we wouldn't be talking about him as a candidate right now.

There may be more but that's all i feel like trying to find right now.

finally, a brief recent Cards coaching history lecture:

After the Cardinals went to the Superbowl after the 2008 season, Todd Haley, the OC was scooped up by the Chiefs, leaving that job vacant. After some consideration Whisenhunt split the coordinator job in half, giving the QB coach the "Passing game" title and Grimm the title of "running game coordinator", and Ken started calling the offensive plays himself lol (he also called the plays in 2007; Haley called the plays in 2008). Recently this year he gave their QB Coach/PGC (<-----what the fug) Mike Miller permission to call some plays during the games, but not to Grimm. Why not? I guess he has more confidence in Miller. And it could also be Grimm got that half assed RGC title applied to him for the same reason Mike McCoy got to be a "Passing game coordinator" after the Panthers gave Davidson the OC job over him.

So, Grimm fans, what makes a coach that can't win one owner over during the numerable interviews he's had over the last few years to be hired or promoted to be an HC, coaches offensive units that don't produce much results, and can't even get a lesser promotion competing against other assistants so goddamn appealing? (You know, other than the fact that some people on here seem to have this obsession with BEING EVERYTHING LIKE TEH STEELERSZZZSZZ ALL THE TIMESZZEs!!!!)

Richardson hasn't really done that great of job picking head coaches. Our best one ever is barely above 500. Lets hope he listens to his advisors this time or Grimm sounds right up his alley. Unless he goes defense and his solution could be picking someone even less known than Grimm. If he is going offense I would prefer Harbaugh or someone like Chucky- a jerk but an offensive genius of a jerk. At least he should satisfy the guys who don't want anymore clapping and gum chewing.

      The thing with cleaning house… who the hell wants to actually work for Tepper?! What good coach with options would take that gig? There are literally 31  better teams to work for…. This is the WORST place for a coach to work… and it’s not even close. Auto-firing staff after 1-2 years will only make things worse.  If candidates know they are going to be auto-fired when being dumped in to an impossible situation, then why even apply? Tepp has to show candidates that he’s calmed the f down. The best thing is for him to not make any major franchise decisions for a while.  Just imagine where we would be right now with Wilks, Darnold, Foreman, Luvu, Moore,  the king’s ransom they were offered for Burns and the picks they traded away for Young… tell me with a straight face that blowing all of that up was the right move compared to where we are today. Wilks and Darnold were bridges to a better place.  My point being, EVERY major franchise decision from Tepp has been a disaster. He blows everything up, even if it shows signs of potential. He has refused to hire a ‘my way or no way’ type coach with proven NFL success.  I promise you he doesn’t have a friend in the entire building.  besides changing out Evero who has been given years to make it work, this is the best case scenario for the foreseeable future until the next draft. I don’t think Canales is the right coach for the job, but tying him to Young isn’t fair. He deserves at least another season with his own guy that he chooses.

      Yeah, he did. But what absolutely killed any chance of success is that our QB panicked and sailed the ball through the endzone uncatchable. That's why the focus is on that. Why do we need to do all these mental gymnastics to keep trying to come up with excuses to cover for the worst starting QB in the NFL over the past three years? What else do we kneed to see from him to admit he ain't ir? You don't trade up to #1 overall to draft a QB that needs everything to go perfectly to succeed. You're doing that because you think you're drafting a guy who can carry an offense.

      He needed another year as DC to get the team a draft pick. Had they let him walk before this season the Panthers get nothing. The irony is that they will get nothing anyway as no team will hire him as a HC. I'm not sure he could get another DC job at this point.
