As for as Black QB's lets talk about them. Hands down the best NFL Black QB has been Warren Moon....a pocket passer. Vick, Cunningham etal that ran around and was 'athletic' or 'Mobile' have never done poo in the NFL and never will. You win as a QB in the NFL with your brain and your arm. When Young settled down and started throwing first, he won his superbowl. When Elway quit running around, started using his running game he won his superbowl. Same with Favre etal.

The way you win championships in the NFL is to read the defense, stand and deliver the ball. Should you be able to move to avoid the rush sometimes? Yes. If a first down is there and you can get it running WHEN ALL RECEIVERS ARE COVERED, yes you run it. Other than that, keep your ass in the pocket and deliver the football.

As for Cam's work ethic, the reason I question it is this: I never hear stories of him gobbling film after everyone leaves, staying after practice with the WRs, etc. I look for these kind of comments. You hear them about Luck, Manning, etc. I hear about Newton's God-given ability, his charisma, his character.

As for reading defenses, the offense he runs reads one defensive back for the most part. It could be a safety, it could be a corner. If the safety goes left, hit the seam; if the corner drops into coverage, throw the underneath route. THat is it. THey do that in high school. Going through pre-snap reads, changing plays, recognizing defensive packages and blitzes, going through the progressions, etc. have never been placed on his shoulders. When he sees something he didn't see in practice, he runs.

Finally, running is instinctive--not a conscious choice. As an athlete, he has always relied on his athletic gifts to succeed. Thinking was little more than reacting. NFL QBs are totally different. They must anticipate, process, adjust, make a decision, and deliver the ball at the precise time. Running may get a first down, but it shortens a career. It is a cop out. Vick is flashing right now, but I would not trade Kolb because Vick will not have another year in him at this pace.

Finally, this type of QB tends to be erratic and streaky.

Yes the NFL is about accuracy and reading D's. That's a given. Me thinking Cam is a good qb has nothing to do with the history of running qb's. Besides, it's not like the guys you mentioned had bad running games. Balance also helps.

We could have had Vick for that 2nd round pick. Despite if you believe he should have a 2nd chance or not (I personally believe he deserves one, everyone does). Vick by himself could of taken our offense from last to about #15. Great ability to make plays with his feet, Vick has developed that pass first mentality he has missed all these years, and for that he is the #1 QB in the league.

I'm not about to start up another Vick thread/argument. But if we are to talk about a black QB who is built to scramble and has/had character issues, you mise well be talking about Vick.
