Haynesworth wants a big payday

Mr. Scot

I'd be willing to give him a substantial amount of cash, depending on the structure of the contract.

Minimal signing bonus ($6M) and reasonable base salary ($2M/year) with a majority of the money coming through roster bonuses annually. This way, if he DOES turn into a one-year wonder, he can be cut without a long-term hit.

Of course, that depends on how they compute roster bonuses into the cap.

This is exactly what he is trying to avoid. The man wants to get paid, he'd never agree to something like that...

He knows the full contract is not going to be fully guaranteed. He just said that when asked about home team discount.

I do think his contract will be better than Peppers' contract.

They both came in the league in 2002 and haynesworth has been only okay until 2007 when he turned things around. His numbers pale in comparison to Peppers and he is a DT versus a DE so the salaries are always less. The highest paid DT gets around 8 million now. Is anyone going to pay him 12 or 13 million? That is what peppers will get if he stays at DE.

It'll be interesting to see if the trend we are seeing in baseball carries over to the NFL. With the economy down and budgets being cut (a lot of layoffs lately by many NFL teams), you have to wonder how much bidding there is going to be for some of the free agents out there.

In the MLB, some quality players are still out there waiting for contract offers. Some are choosing to sign one-year deals for nearly half of what they expected.

For Pepp and Haynesworth, they will still get paid. For Gross and some of the potential franchise players, they will get paid as well. But the middle-tier free-agents would be wise to check out what is happening in MLB and act accordingly.

Nah man, Sure wasn't. I was talking about something else. Like Porn stars, maybe. I can't recall at the moment. Nah really Does anyone think that Haynesworth is worth that, I'm inclined to say yes, He wants to be here. Tenn signs Haynesworth and does a sign and trade with us for Peppers.

i can remember going to titans games directly after haynesworth came back from his suspension. the crowd was so supportive of him and cheering for him and i kept thinking there's just no way i could ever support this guy after his malicious face-stomping incident. i just kept yelling "people, he stomped on a guy's face! he's garbage!" and nobody around me had anything to say back, just kinda got quiet.

i would be very very dissapointed if we ended up with him somehow.

    • I just dont get the worry over losing a practice squad player that just went undrafted. Everyone just made their selections. The chances of a team wanting to sign him to an active roster after not selecting him is very low.  If that interested they would have taken him late to evaluate in person. As far as I can tell two qbs were signed off another teams practice squad last season and they were both going in to their 5th season.
    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
    • I don't really follow the team anymore due to a variety of reasons and consequently have largely stopped posting but I agree that this is a lovely website and community. This forum probably kept me around for years longer than I would've stuck otherwise because of how difficult it was to stop checking multiple times a day. Especially appreciate how lax the moderation tends to be compared to a lot of places, the crew here does a great job. Out of curiousity I decided to try making a new account (solely for testing purposes) to see what exactly is wrong with the sign up process. The issue seems to be that it never sends you an account verification email, thus making it impossible to complete registration. This is likely something to do with the email server upstream, hope it gets fixed. Also, lol
